UPDATE: We are needing to take a brief “paws” on dog food donations. Our pantry shelves are overflowing (in the best way!!) but we are running out of places to store it all. Thank you all for the amazing support. 🙌❤️

🌟We are in need of dry adult dog food!🌟

We give away thousands of pounds of dog food each year from our Community Pet Food Pantry to local pet owners in need. But we are only able to do that because of your generous donations!

Right now, our supply is seriously low. Can you help?

For easy donating, check out our Amazon Wishlist at https://a.co/i7dzKPv or order online to 180 Big Star Dr. Thomasville, GA 31757. In person donations can be placed at our front door, preferably between the hours of 9am-6pm.

We do not have any preference on brand or bag size. We happily accept puppy, kitten, and adult cat dry food as well!

With your support, we can help pets stay full, healthy, and happy, and keep them together with their owners.

Thank you! 🫶

The event is a drop-in between the hours of 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. both days. Participants will receive a FREE pollinator-friendly plant to take home. Visit https://pebblehill.com/ for more information. The Waldorf is getting pressure washed this morning. This beautiful building was designed by architect Abram Garfield and served as the laundry facility for the property. It also has a kitchen where meals for staff were served in its dining room. Guests and family would also often have breakfast in the Waldorf before early morning hunts. The Waldorf earned its nickname when a guest at Pebble Hill Plantation remarked that it was the fanciest laundry they'd ever seen. The Waldorf is open as part of our self-guided Grounds and Outbuildings tour. Today we honor Juneteenth, a Federal holiday since 2021, to commemorate... President Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation which was on January 1, 1863, announcing, "that all persons held as slaves" within the rebellious areas "are, and hence forward shall be free."

On May 20, 1865, the Emancipation Proclamation was first read on the steps of the Knott House in Tallahassee, Florida by General Edward McCook. That was when the enslaved in Florida learned they were free – two years after the document was issued by President Abraham Lincoln.

After 1901, May 20th is the date that was celebrated annually at Pebble Hill as Emancipation Day. It was a tradition at Pebble Hill that was observed under the direction Kate Hanna Ireland Harvey and later by Elisabeth Ireland Poe that included a barbecue, music, dancing, and fellowship.

Pictured is an Emancipation Day celebration at Pebble Hill Plantation in the 1930s. Photo is from the Pebble Hill Archives. Visit Pebble Hill Plantation to learn more. https://pebblehill.com/

Dipping into the Pebble Hill Plantation archives this morning for this gem from the 1920s--a group of unidentified guests enjoying the swimming pool, which is a testament to the sharp contrast in Cleveland, Ohio and Thomasville, Georgia winters. Pebble Hill was the winter home of the Hanna/Ireland family, so this photo was taken sometime between October and March. In 1920, Man o' War won the Belmont Stakes by a 20-length victory, setting a world record for a mile and three furlongs in the process (2:141/5). Elisabeth "Pansy" Ireland Poe was a massive fan of Man o' War and visited the great horse in Lexington, KY after he was put out to stud. She invested in several Man o' War offspring to add to her breeding programs at Pebble Hill Plantation, her Harrodsburg, Kentucky Shawnee Farm, and her farm in Ireland. She also collected artwork featuring Man o' War, which may be seen when you tour the Main House at Pebble Hill Plantation. Miss Pansy took this photo of Man o' War with her camera. https://pebblehill.com/ Visit Thomasville, GA Visit Tallahassee Thomasville Explore Explore Georgia Georgia Association of Museums The Chronicle Of The Horse BloodHorse The Evening Dew

Join us June 22nd in the Learning Center for a fascinating program with renowned astronomer, Randy Rhea. "There's More to the Sun than You Might Think" will feature a lecture by Rhea and the opportunity to view the sun through Rhea's high-powered telescope.
"The sun has been in the news a lot lately," says Rhea. "Now is a period of high solar activity. That’s what caused the recent outburst of the Northern Lights, and it could happen again soon. In 1989, a solar flare knocked out the power grid in Quebec for nine hours. In this high-tech age, solar flares have the potential for much greater damage."

Rhea's programs are highly popular and sell out fast! Tickets available by visiting https://pebblehill.com/
