Kīlauea volcano is currently erupting again at Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park! 🌋 At approximately 3:15 p.m. HST on September 10, 2023, the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory observed eruptive activity in Kīlauea summit we**am images and from field reports indicating that an eruption has commenced within Halemaʻumaʻu crater and on the down dropped block to the east in Kīlauea’s summit caldera, within Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park.

The eruption is confined to Halemaʻumaʻu and is not a threat to public safety at this time. As such, there is no reason at this time for travelers to change or alter their leisure or business plans to Hawaiʻi.

Please remember to be mindful when visiting the park:
▪️ Volcanic eruptions can be hazardous and can change at any time. Stay on marked trails and overlooks. Do not enter closed areas. Avoid cliff edges and earth cracks.
▪️ Expect delays and limited parking due to high visitation.
▪️ Consider viewing the eruption from less crowded areas by hiking to popular viewing areas from other parking lots or visit at an unconventional time. The park is open 24 hours a day.
▪️ Slow down and drive safely.
▪️ Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park is asking all who come to visit the eruption to observe the volcanic effects in silence out of respect for Native Hawaiians customs.
