It has a wrap around front porch with stamped concrete, beaded haint blue painted ceilings, solid mahogany double doors with wrought iron rails, a dramatic circular staircase with Spanish designed balustrade, a dome with a 42 light lead crystal chandelier, a turret (round room) with 9 windows overlooking the front yard, spacious formal rooms, large kitchen with granite counter tops, farm sink, high end cherry cabinetry, wet bar, 2 story family room with gas fireplace, grand master bedroom with a seating area, 3 other bedrooms each with it's own bathroom , a bonus room room on second floor with a wet bar, covered back porch, a smooth built-in concrete dance floor with a separate DJ pad. Area surrounded by trees! Play set for kids to play.

After 9 days of being away from Banika, the garden just became more vibrant with fruits. More grape tomatoes and eggplants we can handle. One box has 6 cantaloupes.

I keep cutting the flowers from the basil and mustard. They look good in a vase.

Gardening is such a fun, relaxing satisfying experience.

Our guests who stayed a week for their daughters wedding were so nice enough to water the plants and fed our adopted wild gray cat we call Olive. Olive already have 4 kittens. We really need to get her spayed.

Didn’t realize till now that the basil branches cut and put in a vase would take roots.

Simple joy and satisfaction when you can go to your back yard garden and harvest fresh cucumber & basil and put it in your avocado or portabella mushroom w/ balsamic sandwich.

First thing I do in the morning is see how much these plants and fruits have grown overnight. And how much leaves the deers have nibbled on the tomato plants.

So far, the Irish Spring soaps placed around the plant beds seem to be working as a deterrent.

Banikas rear right side yard just opened up to the subdivision behind it. We’ve lost the privacy we enjoyed for the last 13 years. There will be a house whose back will be facing ours. 😭

Meanwhile, the four o’clock flowers are blooming together with the hydrangeas, lilies, bee balms and black eyed Susan.

The persimmons and apples are coming out nicely. Maybe we can finally eat the fruits 🍎 from these trees. They always seem to fall prematurely.

The garden, now saved by the Irish Spring soap has started to grow without interruption from the deers.

It’s all good.

For a week, the bold fragrance coming from this fortune plant can be smelled all over this bathroom, owner suite and down to the first floor of the home.

This scent reminds me of my hometown where it permeated the air walking home at dusk. Crickets and frogs would sing along as butterflies retire and fireflies light their fire to welcome the night. Only when you’re out of that scene does one realize that the daily mundane events in life were actually magical moments. Thankful that this plant and other flowers from the tropics can be grown here where they would build another set of memories in another scene.

It took 8 years for the 3 fortune plants to bloom. Since 2017, all 3 would bloom once a year at different times.

This flower is my most anticipated bloom of the year at Banika along with the purple roses which bloom in spring and the Camia flowers which bloom in August. These 3 flowers are the most delightful, fragrant flowers at Chateau d'Amour at Banika.

The name has been changed from Villa
Banika to Chateau d’Amour to reflect the reason why this house is built and kept as it is.

This home is place where family, friends, clients and colleagues gather to love and enjoy each other’s company.

Love of Paris and love of Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders which helped Guiuan during typhoon Haiyan) are the reasons why the French version is used.

Other than our resident summer tanager who sings a unique melody 🎶 on top of the pine tree 🌲 daily, we now have a Mom cat with her 3 kittens hanging out the back of Banika. Miot feeds them but when approached, they run to the woods. Rabbit not seen before on this property ever is now residing here as well.

This 10 ft tall Fortune/Corn plant took about 8 years to bloom. Since December 2017, it has bloomed several times.

Today however, I realized that during the day, the flowers petals are closed. At night is when they open.

Tonight I come home with its strong sweet tropical scent permeating the house. I love this plant so much.

No wonder this scent only reminds me of those beautiful nights in Guiuan where these plants grew wild.
