Lorie (LBH) is a Lokahi Nui™ team member and contributing writer. She is a PhD candidate and researcher at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA. Her research interests include mindfulness, resilience, mind-body coaching and how these things interact with one another and overall wellness and happiness in daily living. Lorie does pro bono work with victims of domestic violence and works within social service, law enforcement, legal and school systems. She writes for several publications and speaks nationally on mind-body coaching, PTSD, resilience, and wellness. In addition to her PhD, she holds bachelors and masters degrees in psychology and has worked as a clinician most of her adult life. Lorie has spent most of her life riding and training horses and as a professional and interpretive dancer. She attributes much of her mind-body awareness to these disciplines. Mari Ann (MAD) is a contributing writer from Rural Kansas. Her areas of expertise include chronic pain, migraines and mind-body based treatment for the comorbid conditions of depression, anxiety, and sleep disturbances. Mari Ann has also done pro bono work with victims of domestic violence. Her areas of interest revolve around mindfulness in the medical system and mind-body coaching as it applies to post-surgery recovery. (BA) is a contributing writer and staff member of Lokahi Nui and makes his home in Washington, DC. His areas of expertise include corporate business and management, sailing, and yacht systems and maintenance. First we listen. Really listen. Coaching is not therapy or counseling. Instead, our professional coaches are trained to listen deeply and ask powerful questions to help you define and meet your goals. We take into account your overall lifestyle and wellness, assess your stressors and challenges and finally apply the appropriate MindBody Coaching techniques, in a scientifically sound manner to your particular case. Depending on your goals, personality and preferences we may also invite you to use anything from meditation, guided imagery, biofeedback and self-hypnosis to drawing, journaling, dance, movement and yoga -all the while listening to and responding to your agenda. If you want to meet a specific goal in the most efficient, time and cost effective way -say weight reduction and/or stress management, we would create a more intensive, results driven approach. This could include email, text, on call support and reminders and challenges throughout your day to keep you on task and headed to your end goal. We will work with you in person, on the phone or via Skype. Our team will support you with homework, exercises to deepen your understanding and other techniques to support you in finding a balance between enjoyment and effective outcome. This isn’t about fixing a broken you, it is about supporting you in taking your life to the next level.
