You don’t have to save your study abroad plans for your final or second to last year! You can study abroad with EMU as long as you have an established GPA.
Study abroad can cover a lot of credits, you just want to make sure you have prior approval first!

Myth #4 busted! There are tons of different programs to choose from that can match your interests and major. We also recommend that you ask your favorite professor to see if they might be interested in planning their own program! Meet with a peer advisor to talk about the credit approval process: this helps you plan to meet your degree/general education requirements while abroad before you go abroad. Myth # 3 BUSTED! Don’t know the language? That’s okay! There are many ways for you to learn before, during, and after your program. Interested in studying abroad for Winter 2025 but worried about funding?
Consider applying to the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship! This scholarship was established in 2001 and created for eligible Federal Pell Grant recipients to study or intern abroad. They encourage language development and STEM research as part of their program.
Award amounts can be up to $5,000, and there are additional opportunities for more funding through the Critical Need Language Award of up to $3,000 and/or the STEM Supplemental Award of up to $1,000.
