From March 16th Uzbekistan is lifting travel restrictions for tourists

Due to the stabilization of the epidemiological situation and in order to increase the flow of tourists to the country, the Republican Special Commission decided that from March 16th Uzbekistan will have the following changes:
✨The PCR test is canceled, if the incoming passport or vaccination certificate is available. In the absence of passports/vaccination certificates, the person entering must have the results of a negative PCR test (with an electronic QR code), for a period of no more than 72 hours, or an express test when crossing the border upon arrival on the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
✨All restrictions on the free passage of citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan and citizens of the Republic of Uzbekistan through all checkpoints on the border between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan are lifted.
✨Restrictions are lifted for all individuals at crossing points between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.
✨The electronic visa issuance system (E – VISA) for foreign citizens is resumed.

In addition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is developing a Call-center for high-quality services for foreign tourists.

Gur-e Amir is Persian for "Tomb of the King". This architectural complex with its azure dome contains the tombs of Tamerlane, his sons Shah Rukh and Miran Shah and grandsons Ulugh Beg and Muhammad Sultan. Also honoured with a place in the tomb is Timur's teacher Sayyid Baraka.

Kukeldash Madrasah (view from the road)
The madrasah is built of yellow brick, and has a traditional square shape with a big portal and an inner yard. The walls around the inner yard contain cells inhabited by the students. The portal is 20 metres (66 ft) high and contains two towers at its sides.

In 1830-1831 the first floor of the madrasah was demolished, and the bricks were used to build the nearby Beklarbegi Madrasah. It was later restored. The madrasah was damaged by the earthquake in 1868 and subsequently reconstructed in 1902-1903. It was reconstructed again in the 1950s and became one of only several religious buildings which survived the 1966 Tashkent earthquake.

The madrasah was converted into a caravanserai in the 18th century, then it served as a fortress. In the 20th century it was a museum, first of atheism, and later of folk music. In the 1990s, the building was made a madrasah again.

If you're fortunate enough to step inside the Gur-e-Amir mausoleum after dark, the central chamber sparkles as light flickers from the colossal crystal chandelier hanging beneath the dome. The gilt on the ceiling seems to glow, and it feels like you're in a very holy place indeed.

Uzbekistan cancels express testing for COVID-19 at checkpoints from 15 March

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - Uzbekistan has canceled the procedure for express testing for coronavirus antigen at airports, railway stations and border points from 15 March 2021. A special republican commission made a corresponding decision on 13 March.

This decision was made to create convenience for visitors to Uzbekistan and to widely use the tourism potential.

From 15 March, visitors arriving by air and rail must undergo a PCR test for coronavirus (within the last 72 hours) before check-in and present a certificate with a negative result.

If visitors arrive by road, they must present a certificate of passing a PCR test for coronavirus (within the last 72 hours) with a negative result.

In the absence of a PCR test result, visitors can take a rapid test for antigen to COVID-19 in special clinics and laboratories at border crossings. Visitors will only be admitted to Uzbekistan with a negative result. Test results must be in English or Russian.

From 25 March, citizens of foreign countries will be allowed into Uzbekistan without express testing if a negative PCR test for coronavirus is obtained in laboratories that meet quality standards.

The commission instructed the responsible organizations to compile and publish a list of laboratories that conduct high-quality and reliable PCR testing for coronavirus abroad. At the same time, at least 10 laboratories will be identified in each country. The test results of these medical institutions will be recognized in Uzbekistan.

A special republican commission instructed ministries and departments to inform foreign partners, investors and tour operators about the abolition of restrictions on entry into the country, about the opening of new air and rail links.

Ideally located on the site of ancient Afrosiab the legendary name of Samarkand amid man made mounds from successive periods of her habitation through human history.
During Soviet era this place was of constant interest to archaeologists unearthing a huge historical record in the form of an invaluable collection of object now at display in the museums. This was the site of successive sieges and wars of which Samarkand was known in the history.
The most important display in Afrosiab Museum is a well preserved part of room walls with the best frescoes dating from 7th/08th AD. Other regular object are seen in displayed in a large variety of terra-cotta objects from utensils to aqua ducts and pipes.
