Famous for its famous "floating" tori gate, the Itsukushima Shrine is located on Japan's Miyajima island. The complex is unique for being built out over the water—giving it the appearance of floating during high tide.

Connected by boardwalks, Itsukushima includes a prayer hall, main hall and "noh" theatre stage. While it's not possible to enter the shrine after sunset, the complex stays illuminated until 11:00 each night, offering visitors the perfect backdrop for an evening stroll.
