My Tho is located in the Mekong Delta and only a two-hour drive from Ho Chi Minh City – very popular for day tours for that reason. Here you can make beautiful boat trips on the Mekong River, visit small islands and taste the local life.

As with most destinations in the Mekong Delta, a boat trip is the best things to do in My Tho. My Tho is located on the mighty Mekong River, which has several branches with smaller rivers, which are then connected to each other by different channels. With a motorized boat you can travel great distances on the rivers and see a lot of the local river life, such as fishermen and boats that carry enormous amounts of fruit. Small traditional sampan boats row you through the smaller side channels through the palm forests.

When you sail from place to place you will see many fishermen along the way. The Mekong is known for large catfish, but there is also Tai Tuong (Elephant fish). This fish is actually farmed in huge tanks and is also found in the waters of the Delta.

Discovering local life can be perfectly combined with a boat trip. There are many small islands around My Tho that you can visit by boat. You can stop and walk around to meet the locals and learn about their daily life. Unicorn Island, for example, is a popular stop and there are more like Phoenix and Dragon island. On the islands you will find many fruit plantations for which the Mekong Delta is known. Here you can watch how the fruit is grown and you can try delicious seasonal fruit.

There are also many local factories and shops that produce their own products, such as the production of coconut candy. Turtle Island is a place where you can see this. Another local product is snake wine! The base is rice wine that is poured over a snake and left to ferment. Locals believe it has medicinal properties. There is a bee farm on Thoi Son, where you can buy local honey.

Cu Chi Tunnels of Sai Gon are honored in the TOP 7 most adventurous destinations in Southeast Asia and TOP 12 most attractive underground wonders in the globe. The Tunnels of Cu Chi, a gigantic underground tunnel system, was originally constructed under the jungle terrain, connecting tunnels among the hamlets and communes during the Indochina war (1945-1954) against the French colonialists. Hoi An Ancient town is located in Viet Nam’s central Quang Nam Province, on the north bank near the mouth of the Thu Bon River. The inscribed property comprises 30 ha and it has a buffer zone of 280 ha. It is an exceptionally well-preserved example of a small-scale trading port active the 15th to 19th centuries which traded widely, both with the countries of Southeast and East Asia and with the rest of the world. Its decline in the later 19th century ensured that it has retained its traditional urban tissue to a remarkable degree.

The town reflects a fusion of indigenous and foreign cultures (principally Chinese and Japanese with later European influences) that combined to produce this unique survival.

The town comprises a well-preserved complex of 1,107 timber frame buildings, with brick or wooden walls, which include architectural monuments, commercial and domestic vernacular structures, notably an open market and a ferry quay, and religious buildings such as pagodas and family cult houses. The houses are tiled and the wooden components are carved with traditional motifs. They are arranged side-by-side in tight, unbroken rows along narrow pedestrian streets. There is also the fine wooden Japanese bridge, with a pagoda on it, dating from the 18th century. The original street plan, which developed as the town became a port, remains. It comprises a grid of streets with one axis parallel to the river and the other axis of streets and alleys set at right angles to it. Typically, the buildings front the streets for convenient customer access while the backs of the buildings open to the river allowing easy loading and off-loading of goods from boats.

The surviving wooden structures and street plan are original and intact and together present a traditional townscape of the 17th and 18th centuries, the survival of which is unique in the region. The town continues to this day to be occupied and function as a trading port and centre of commerce. The living heritage reflecting the diverse communities of the indigenous inhabitants of the town, as well as foreigners, has also been preserved and continues to be passed on. Hoi An Ancient Town remains an exceptionally well-preserved example of a Far Eastern port.

Kien Giang Province is hosting the Visit Viet Nam Year 2016 - Phu Quoc-Mekong River Delta with the theme “Exploring the Southern land”. Phu Quoc Island is one of its top destinations.

"There are more than 20 flights a day to from Ha Noi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Can Tho, and we are now establishing routes between Phu Quoc and Singapore, Cambodia, China and Russia. Many international airlines have registered to open new routes to Phu Quoc this year", Vice Chairman of the Phu Quoc District People’s Committee Huynh Quang Hung said.
