Progress at the first house visited was unexpected: From the original plan to build a new KITCHEN, the family had been so impressed with the work undertaken by the Rouse Hill group that they found extra resources to build a new HOUSE!

At the end of the day in this lovely location, Ms Bphu de-briefed the Australian Independent School Jakarta's Year 11 group before they returned to Hoi An.

It might have looked like the AISJ Year 11 teachers were plotting how to stay away from doing any seed planting work, but it was only Mr Genders' way of deciding how best to record the students' activities!

Although a simple process, the seed planting was done in a cool location next to the river and gave the students some time to get to know one another.

Working in groups of 3, the AISJ group went bush and planted 100s of seeds.

The final activity for the Australian Independent School Jakarta's Year 11 group was planting jack beans to help with putting nitrogen back into the soil and to act as a ground cover to hold the soil together.

After lunch, Australian Independent School Jakarta's students and teachers learnt about mat weaving from Ms Bien and her auntie: 2 experienced people can make 4 mats per day.

A new initiative of An Nhien Community Garden is "upcycling" soap where they clean soap left over in hotel rooms and press it into larger bars to donate to ethnic minority villages. AISJ students and teachers embraced this new activity.
