New Pacific Dive page !

Pacific Dive is back! Unfortunately our page was hacked and taken over and many weeks of attempts to gain access again proved futile, so here we are with a brand new page! 🤦🏻‍♂️

Please share with your dive buddies and spread the word and if you have dived with us before we would appreciate a Facebook review to bring us back to where we were prior to the hacking!

To prove to you all we aren’t fakes, but in fact real divers from paradise in the South Pacific here is a photo of the team on our most recent team building day! 🏌️‍♂️

Dive safe and see you in Santo soon 👌🏻

We knew we were getting closer to the village, because we could hear the singing and bamboo drumming in the distance…, it’s like we are heading to the movie, “Indiana Jones”…, our local porters were starting to get excited.

We finally arrived in Voele village to found few 100’s of the people there from nearby villages celebrating a boy to became a man, the chief’s son had shaved his beard for the first time. It’s a huge custom tradition in Santo.

These celebrations called “Laffet”, feast with whole cow, pig killing ceremony, kava… and custom dance, they will dance until day light.

We were told all the houses were full up even we sent message in advance, no place for us to stay…, we were all exhorted so we just sat on the grass and waited, but very thankfully Chief Kingsley asked everyone to found a chief’s house for us to share with 3 other families.

These traditional houses are made with bamboo wall, Natangora leaves roofing and dirt floor. Chief found fresh leaves to put on the floor for us to put our sleeping mats on.

While we set up the place for us to sleep, our guide & porters brought a bucket of Kava to have a welcome ceremony with the village chief. It’s their traditional to welcome someone arriving from outside. We gave the chief our gifts and had kava together.

we explored the village to see the activities…, making kava, butchering cow, cooking meat in big pots, the people dancing, young boys having fun with loud music.

It’s not often the foreigners arrived in these remote villages so everyone were looking at us with curiosity.

We finally settled to sleep, but we could still hear outside, still custom dancing, drunks playing loud music, generator… boys still drinking kava inside the same hut……

What a night…

West coast Espiritu Santo.

Even though it’s Santo island where the 2nd largest town in Vanuatu is, the west coast is isolated as there are no roads, no (usable) air strips, and weather dependent shore access.

As such the west coast is seldom visited by tourists and only serviced by local ships collecting copra (dried coconut).

But one of the most scenic coasts in all of Vanuatu. West cost Santo stretches 60nm (111km).

To Ankoro, Big Bay Bush

Big Bay Bush located in the middle North of Santo, the largest island in Vanuatu. All the villages are around magnificent Jordan River.

We planned the trip for 2 days, our first part of the trip are unknown.

Departed Luganville town 6am, picked up my local friends on the way.

70km, relatively ok road except the last bits of very rough hill down towards the Lape river was scary, had to drive very slowly. Took me just under 4 hours to get there. Very tiring and hard drive.
