Cape Town has to be one of the world's most magical places to visit with something for everyone from it's stunning setting at the tip of Africa with it's iconic Table Mountain, the sheer beauty of it's scenery, endless beaches, it's flora and fauna, outdoor activities on land and sea, nature, wildlife, whales and penguins, gourmet hotspot, its world class wines and winemakers, melting pot of many cultures, it's complex history, its sense of fun - a great value destination with much to be enjoyed for free

Missing Pembroke 403 this Easter though we can still look forward to having another Spring when we get back there in our autumn. At least, we can have tulips twice a year in Connemara and later in Cape Town.

Another superb meal enjoyed at Aubergine Restaurant Cape Town, probably the longest established fine dining restaurant in this beautiful city and one of the very best with Chef Harald and his team. Wine list is wide-ranging and superb. For our lamb dish this time, we enjoyed a very special treat, a Seven Flags Pinot Noir by Andries Burger of Paul Cluver Wines.

Cape Town, Western Cape is one of the hottest foodie places in the world with Liam Tomlin's chefs warehouse and cookery school, Liam's new venture at Beau Constantia, The Pot Luck Club, Neighbourgoods Market Cape Town, La Colombe, The Test Kitchen, The Shortmarket Club, Ash Restaurant & so many more. All of this with so many of the most exciting wines being produced in the work right now.

Langebaan lagoon was a hive of activity yesterday. The water was full of kite surfers & the pure blue sky was filled with their multicoloured kites. Chill time, fun time, family time, beach time. Enjoyed some great seafood at Pearly's Restaurant with a glass or two of delicious Buitenverwachting Buiten Blanc. All an easy 90 minute drive from Cape Town. Life is good here at Pembroke 403.

The sea was brown at Muizenberg today following the storm but that didn't interfere with all the fun, young & old, swimmers & surfers having a ball. I just love Muizenberg. Reminds me of Irish beaches when we were children though I don't recall any surfers & certainly no wetsuits back then.

Kinnegar Wines

Wonderful visit with Samantha O'Keefe at Lismore Estate Vineyards, her very remote wine farm which has a W.O of its own - Greyton. Her wines shine so brightly even as she expands her range from the Sauvignon, Chardonnay & Viognier with which she started to Syrah and Pinot Noir. This year, with her beautiful new cellar waiting to be filled, she is co-fermenting Syrah & Viognier as one of her newest ventures as well as exciting new plantings on the valley slopes.

The Clock Tower at the V & A Waterfront was built as the harbour masters office in 1882. Today, it is one of the iconic images of Cape Town and it still keeps a close eye on all the comings & goings in the busy harbour. All of this from our balcony at Pembroke 403. So lucky, so beautiful, so special.

So interesting to watch the fishing at Muizenberg Beach today. Called trek fishing, a large net was brought out into the water by a boat. Then teams of people hauled the two ends of the long net to scoop what fish they might. Spotters high up communicated with those on the beach to indicate where the shoals might be. Looked like very hard work and the return was little today. Long beach walk followed for us - magical.

The Robinson Dry Dock at the V & A Waterfront which opened in 1882 is still fully functional with weathered rust buckets arriving for a makeover before being floated out only days later in gleaming pristine style. The dry dock also had another life as the setting for swimming galas - look at the beautiful stone steps that acted as seating for the viewing gallery

Cape Town is the culinary capital of South Africa with several world class restaurants - The Test Kitchen, Rust en Vrede, The Greenhouse Restaurant, Cellars-Hohenort Hotel, Le Quartier Français and many more. AND the value is incredible but do book well ahead.

Ask a South African where to find the finest restaurants on the continent and anyone with a modicum of taste will say ‘Cape Town’, and in these fine dining establishments the Mother City really nails its colours to the culinary mast.
