Abdullah Ibrahim's 'Mannenburg' is a special work, without words, lyrics or slogans, it became a protest song of note, even an anthem of the popular uprising of the 1980s. Follow the youtube link to listen to him. #Districtsix

Don't miss the fantastic exhibition of work by Blessing Ngobeni at Everard Read gallery in Cape Town!
Scott Williams (2018:1) accurately referred to the contorted humanoid figures in Ngobeni’s paintings as representing spineless archetypes. Stating that his work echoes Pier Passolini’s words: “…This power manipulates human bodies in the most terrible way, transforming their consciences and instituting new, alienating, and fake values…”

We enjoyed the opportunity to meet Portia Malatjie and her team from the Institute of Creative Repair to listen to them explaining the work being prepared for the South African pavilion at the Venice Biennale 2024. The exhibition, titled Quiet Ground, will feature a newly commissioned sound installation, Dinokana (2024) by the art collective, MADEYOULOOK made up of Molemo Moiloa and Nare Mokgotho. #ArtrouteSA #Venicebiennale2024 #Aspireart #Investeccapetownartfair
If you still don't have plans for this weekend, make your way to the CTICC for the annual Cape Town Art Fair. #ArtrouteSA
The current video art exhibition at Zeitz MOCAA titled, ‘Seekers. Seers, Soothsayers’ is something you should not miss when visiting Cape Town. My personal favourite is the work by Johannesburg born artist Buhlebezwe Siwani titled ‘AmaHubo’ (the Book of Psalms). The work unpacks our complicated history of displacement and dispossession of land. The artist through the performance believes that hope, healing and forward motion can come when we decide to look back.
