Last night we took a drive to the Warm Bokkeld snow hot spots in Ceres and stopped at Lakenvlei.
We were not disappointed.
Visibility was very low at it was around 18:00 but we had fun for about an hour.

We were amazed at the depth of the sheet that covered the ground.

The snow fall in Ceres and surroundings was amazing and way beyong expectations, unfortinately currently, Gydo, Swaarmoed and Theronsberg Passes all closed due to the snow ⚠️
The excitement is over the head but safety first. The municipality disaster management should advice when they think its safe to drive. You will be able to come into Ceres town but for now you cannot proceed further.

Note that the Gydo Pass (MR310) between Prince Alfred’s Hamlet and Op die Berg, was closed last night due to snow on the road.

The Theronsberg Pass (TR22/02) is being closed. Will close the road at the turn-off to Ceres from the N1 just outside Touwsrivier.

The Swaarmoed Pass is also closed.

We urge all motorists to avoid the area and make use of alternative routes where possible. Avoid unnecessary travel.

Rejath took this photo on the road near Matroosberg Reserve outside Ceres in the Western Cape this evening. Plenty more snow is likely so best you check in the morning if you're planning to head this way. If you do get there tonight or early tomorrow please send us photos and videos of the conditions so that we can post for other people. Sending very late or very early is fine as we barely sleep during a big snow event like this one.

Charting Your Course: The Road to Cederberg Adventure
We continue with the Cederberg in focus this week.
Embarking on your Cederberg adventure? The journey begins with choosing the path that suits your spirit of exploration. Here's a road map to help you navigate your way to this captivating wilderness.

🚗 Direct Route: For those seeking the quickest way, join the N7 at Cape Town or Malmesbury and head north until you reach the Olifants River Valley at the foot of the Cederberg mountains. Keep an eye out for the signpost to the central Cederberg, which is approximately 25km north of Citrusdal.

🏞️ Alternative Scenic Routes: If you prefer the scenic route, consider these options:
R27 via the West Coast: Meander past Bloubergstrand, the West Coast National Park, Langebaan, and Paternoster. Continue on to Velddrif, where you can join the N7 or explore further north via Elands Bay, Leipoldtville, and Graafwater to Clanwilliam.

R303 via Ceres to Citrusdal: This route takes you through the picturesque Cape Winelands. Head to Ceres, then north over the Gydo Pass to Citrusdal. Most of the route is paved, but be ready for a 30km gravel stretch over the Middleberg Pass.

Road to the Central Cederberg via Ceres and Matjiesrivier: If you're staying in the central Cederberg at places like Mount Ceder, Kromrivier, or Sandrif, take the R303 from Ceres and head east at Op die Berg. This gravel road offers breathtaking mountain scenery and is suitable for all vehicles.

Coming from the Route 62, Hermanus, or Swellendam N2: Head to Worcester and join the N1 briefly towards Cape Town. Then take the R43, passing through Wolseley. Continue on the R46, which leads to Porterville and eventually joins the N7 highway.

🚘 What Are the Roads Like? You don't need a 4x4 to explore the Cederberg. Most main roads are paved, but keep in mind that many attractions are on gravel roads. As long as you drive carefully, an ordinary sedan car is more than sufficient. If the road is a government road, rental cars are allowed on gravel roads.

📍 Where is Cederberg?
Located 250 kilometers north of Cape Town, the Cederberg stretches from the Middelberg Pass in Citrusdal to the north of the Pakhuis Pass at Clanwilliam. This vast wilderness spans approximately 71,000 hectares of rugged, mountainous terrain, making it a paradise for hiking and rock-climbing enthusiasts.
