The EThekwini Municipality today announced the Southern Sun Hotel Group as the preferred bidder for the lease and redevelopment of the Elangeni and Maharani hotels for a period of 50 years.

This follows a comprehensive public participation process and request for proposals initiated by the municipality in terms of the applicable regulatory processes.

48-HOUR FILM CHALLENGE is kicking if this weekend 🥳

The Film Project returns and it’s takes place this weekend from 27 to 29 September.

With over 130 short films expected to be created in just two days, participants will have the chance to showcase their talent under time constraints.

Teams will receive specific elements, including two genres, a character, a prop, and a line of dialogue, which must be included in their five to seven minute films.

The challenge offers
filmmakers the opportunity to screen their films in cinemas, compete for 25 local awards, and have selected films showcased on SABC Plus.

Winning teams will represent Durban at Filmapalooza, with a chance to be screened at the Cannes Film Festival.

Our Story

Sunny skies, all year warm days and nights accompanied by fun filled beach activities, musical concerts, exciting night lifestyle and adrenaline filled activities are a sign that you have finally arrived at one of the Top 52 must visit destinations in 2018. This is one of the most recent accolade the city of Durban has received from Fodor Travel - a US Based Tourism Publication. Durban continues to attract both local and international visitors to the city and kept them entertained.

The city has proven time and time again that it is the destination for international sports and events. The city has played host to major international events and conferences including but not limited to NAM Summit, COP 17, BRICS, HICA, 13th International Aids Conference and has been awarded to host Tourism Indaba for the next 5 years. Indaba is one of the premier tourism platform that discuss the growth and economic development of our tourism industry. It is expected to generate an estimated R500 million in economic impact for the City and Province over the next five years. In 2016/17 Indaba attracted 18 500 visitors with an economic contribution of R 26,2 million
