You never know what you’re going to see, always a nice surprise.

Luckily we are still safe after all the rain, but the roads are in bad shape, and Mjejane water pumps washed away. It will take a while to recover 🙏🏻

We finally installed a solar inverter to make our guests more comfy.

Good news, bad news update…
Good news: the bridge into the Kruger is opening up again;
Bad news: the tribe is making it so expensive, that nobody will use it 😢😢😢

Rhino de-horning on Mjejane Game Reserve

21 December, 2020

Subsequent to the rhino de-horning project followed this past week, management wishes to provide you with the detail into the rational regarding the project and its necessity. Over the past few months and since the easing of the Covid – 19 lockdown restrictions, there has been a shocking increase in rhino poaching in South Africa that necessitates the urgent need for both proactive and preventative measures. With the current severe poaching threat, SANParks have implemented a de-horning program and their experts strongly recommend that Mjejane immediately follow suite and dehorn the rhinos.

Unfortunately we felt it prudent not to announce our plans in detail long in advance of executing the plan. This, obviously for security reasons and to protect our Rhinos from last minute attacks. We understand that this is an extremely emotional issue for everyone, but we believe seeing a rhino without a horn is a better alternative than seeing a maimed and dead rhino. De-horning is not permanent but death is!

Yours sincerely

Leopard Treated on Mjejane Game Reserve

21 December 2020

On Saturday morning, 19 December 2020, an injured male leopard was successfully darted and treated on Mjejane Game Reserve and released in the Kruger National Park. The leopard was first seen about two months ago with a large cut on its left front leg that was obviously caused by a wire snare. This successful operation was made possible by the swift action by a concerned member, Mr. Garry Kimble that alerted the authorities and stayed with the leopard throughout the morning. Dr. Kobus Raath, the attending veterinarian gave the leopard an 80% chance for a full recovery.

As a leopards’ territory is quite large, there is a good chance that the leopard may return to Mjejane before his wounds are fully healed and all owners and managing agents should be extremely vigilant and inform their guests that no walking within the development nodes may be allowed until it is confirmed that the leopard has made a full recovery. Please report all sightings of this animal immediately and include pictures where possible.

Yours Sincerely,
MGR Management

Hi folks, the Mjejane bridge into the Kruger opened up, but before we get too excited, they limit the vehicles to 10 a day for a trial period of 6 months. At the moment, folks staying in Mjejane have to apply for a permit. When you stay in our lodge, we will tell you how to apply.
Happy viewing🐾

23/06/2020

Mjejane is still not open to the public, only owners are allowed in. We will let you know as soon as we are back to normal.
