Experience an informative and exhilarating short drive and hike along the wild-side coastline of Cape St Francis. Visit hidden natural wonders such as the blowholes; view sites and traces of shipwrecks and ancient middens of the historical Strandloper people. SHIPWRECK DRIVE AND HIKE:

elf drive 4x4), crossing beautiful Cape fynbos covered dunes, located in a private reserve. There will be possibility of spotting various species of wildlife on route to the drop of point where you will begin the hike of this scenic route. Visit sites and remains of shipwrecks and view middens of the ancient Strandloper people. Experience the spectacular natural blowhole and ‘boiling pot’ created by millions of years of wave action and erosion. Keep an eye out for bird, sea and wildlife species, such as the beautiful Oystercatcher, whales, dolphins, seals, otters, dassies and many others. Pause for taking photos to capture those special memories and to enjoy your refreshments. (+/- 5km)
Level of difficulty: Moderate (hiking/walking on footpaths and uneven terrain)
Age appropriate hike: From 8 years at parent's discretion

Recommend to take with according to own needs: Walking stick, Light day Back pack, Sunscreen, Hat, Drinking water and refreshments, camera, binoculars. Fee: R250 p.p (minimum 2 people) or 4x4 self-drive R250/vehicle. This activity may form part of a 2 night or longer stay option, which includes a gin, rum and cheese tasting and canal cruise. You could even join us for a tour along the coastline visiting points of interest such as the magnificent Huisklip Coastal Cave and lagoon situated in a provincial park or explore the spectacular Baviaans Wilderness area. Comfortable accommodation available in Cape St Francis for maximum 8 people. Tranport from and to Port Elizabeth airport are available. Cape Recife, British steam cargo vessel 5394 tons.
Wrecked 20 February 1929. She ran aground 300m west of Cape St Francis lighthouse while under command of Capt Bradley in dense fog, while on voyage from Cape Town to Durban. Remains of the wreck are still visible at the site of stranding.
