Hugely exciting news 🎉✨️🎊
The latest update on the Great White shark that we encountered 2 days ago from Offshore I with Josh & Rob.
Dr Alison Towner contacted us when we initially released the clip, asking for a closer look as she was pretty sure that she knew this shark.
Here is a closer look of the GoPro clip from our clients which CLEARLY shows that it's a tagged animal with a SPOT = Smart Position Only Tag (which transmits signal to Argos via antenna).
Alison recognized her Tag and it's position immediately with the initial clip but wanted to be sure 🥂
Even more exciting news from Dr Alison Towner is that this 5M female was tagged in Aliwal Shoal on 8th June 2023 and has since been sighted off Port St John's 16th June with us here.
As you know there is massive focus right now in our great white shark movements in SA and in particular linked to Orca predations.
Not only has it been an exciting sighting for all of us here Offshore Africa Port St Johns , but more importantly its a success in tracking the movements of great white sharks in South Africa and lets not forget the power of social media.
It's also a note that anything and everything can be sighted during our annual sardine run and that the sardine run is not just about the little silver fish that cause such a stir 😉😀
