Some interesting facts you may not know about Mauritius:
1. Three European countries colonized Mauritius - the Dutch, the French and the British.
2. Mauritius has the highest population density in Africa and 19th highest in the world.
3. In the mid-1900's, Mauritius was the leading producer of sugar in the British empire.
4. Mauritius was home to it's national bird, the now extinct Dodo. The last confirmed sightings of the Dodo were in the 1660's.
5. Mauritius is a volcanic island that first rose above the waves eight million years ago!
