Drupkelders Rock Pools -


Drupkelders – loosely translated into Dripping Cellars, are rock pools in the Knysna forest. Combine a 3.5km indigenous forest walk with a visit to magnificent rock pools in the Homtini River in the Knysna Forest. These massive rock pools offer deep, cola-coloured waters to cool off in and even a waterfall to clamber up next to (to another series of pools). Take a rucksack with picnic and swimming things and wear good walking shoes as there is a steep section near the river. Due to the exclusivity of this gem, only 12 persons a day are allowed in and a Sanparks permit is required (Wildcards are not accepted for this walk).

Diving into rock pools not advisable

Permits/Costs: R24pp for adults and R14pp for children under the age of 13. Only 12 people are allowed at a time. A permit must be obtained from the access gate at the Goudveld Entrance boom. You will turn left at this boom on your way to Dripkelders. You can also obtain a permit from the SAN Parks office on Thesen Island, Knysna.
Please note permits are not available at Forest Edge Natures-lovers retreat.

Directions: From Knysna take the N2 towards George, 8km out take the Rheenendal turn-off to the right. Travel along this road until you get to the Bibby's Hoek signpost after 12.6km. Follow this road for 2.3km to a four way intersection at the SAN Parks boom, turn left here and continue with this road to the end (1.3km).
