The motto for the day ❤️
"Tango is an embrace. The first thing you need to do is hug someone as if (s)he was a beloved one you haven’t seen for years. With this sensation in mind, start moving... (S)He will move with you because you are hugging each other .....when you are walking hand in hand with someone, you tend to synchronize your steps. When one of you starts walking differently, the other one synchronizes. It happens automatically... this is so powerful that every one of us has a deep connection with the experience of walking while holding hands. We learned that when we were children." - Juan Stefanides about developing a better connection at the chest level.

Ready to learn to dance Tango?

Follow this recommended process for complete beginners:

To try out some Group Classes at a low cost, go to La Viruta on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday nights. The teachers are good, you’ll meet lots of other beginners, and you can practice your new skills immediately after the class with other beginners from the class.

Note that you won’t make much progress in these large group classes, especially without personalized & proactive feedback from instructors.

An interesting article. Many of the milongas and people mentioned will be familiar to our community.

An unspoken invitation to press themselves close to a stranger for a tanda, or set of dances, may stop there, but those that navigate the codes and the dance floor well enough may find further invitations

Learning Argentinian Spanish

Outside of tourist areas or tourist focused activities, it is not common to find English-speaking Argentinians. And many of them that do speak some English are shy to use it. To really understand the culture, interact with locals - especially at classes and Milongas/Practicas, and enjoy non-tourist activities, it is best to learn at least a basic level of Spanish.

The Tango Lounge guide also has some recommendations for Stage tango classes.

The motto for the day ❤️
" Tango milonguero and Show tango are two faces of the same coin. Tango is known throughout the world thanks to Show tango…. the figures are spectacular and visible due to its open embrace and the use of dramatic stage sets, the steps make generous use of the stage.
Tango milonguero does not have this visual richness but instead has great rhythmic richness. It is danced within a confined space, as it is a social dance for the dance hall, characterised by its use of space. The couples dance for their own delight and not for an audience."

“Tango starts in the eyes: with cabeceo/mirada. The magic of the dance starts even before you step on the dance floor. It starts with the way you invite or accept the dance.”

The five reasons why should you respect the cabeceo/mirada rule and how can they help you to have smoother experience in milognas no matter where you are.

"Buenos Aires, the Queen of the Plata,
Buenos Aires, my beloved land,
listen now to my song—
my whole life has gone into it."

Ever wondered what those Spanish tango lyrics are singing out to you? The 'Poetry of Tango' website has English translations of several tango classics. While there is an element of 'lost in translation' this is a very useful resource in understanding the tango more.

The motto for the day ❤️
"Dance is unspoken communication and can be even more profound than language. The simple act of standing shares a glimpse of what we have to give, what we exude to define our presence, what we let go of to be receptive. " - Faith Green

"A good guideline is that for every hour of class with a teacher, you should do two hours of focused practice to truly absorb the learnings. The best method is to find a Practice Partner or use a Taxi Dancer for this focused private practice."
