For as long as I can remember, I have always loved baking and creating sweet things. It all started as a kid in the kitchen with my grandma who was the epitome of the 'old-fashioned' housewife - always adorned by an apron and carrying a freshly baked batch of scones in a wicker basket, covered in a checkered tea towel when she came to visit. This love for creating sweet delights was further enhanced at home by my mum who makes the best banana cake I've ever tried and will argue black and blue that her cheesecake is still better than mine! My love of decorating started after the birth of my first child and my feeble attempt at a purple buttercream butterfly cake. After spending the last few years decorating cakes for friends as a hobby and with interest growing from friends of friends, I have finally decided to turn my passion into a business. The name The Spatularette might suggest that I am still a carefree and single young baker, however, it was actually my husband who came up with the name and it was so cute I couldn't resist! I work part time and am also a busy mum with two young kids. Being able to bake and decorate as a full time business is my dream and hopefully in the not too distant future it will become my reality.
