As we start to see the finish line in sight, the destination marketing and tourism advertisements are coming in thick and fast. Now, this may not be the 'sipping wine in Italy' video you'd expect and probably hope for, but it is quintessentially Australian and certainly put a broad smile on our faces this morning!

This is a HUGE day for Australia, Platinum and the entire travel industry. Will there be a restriction on destinations, a period of varying quarantine requirements and Government and supplier policies to learn and comply with? Absolutely. As a business, we won't be disheartened by these challenges as they are small in contrast to the far greater challenge of having closed borders.

We're yet to understand the fine print of how travel will look in and out of Australia from November onward, but this announcement is a fantastic step in the right direction for everyone who wants to reunite with their family, travel for business or simply enjoy a holiday!

Let's see how the details are presented in the coming weeks, but for now, it's nice to see some light at the end of this very, very long tunnel!

STAFF TRAVEL SPOTLIGHT: Platinum Marketing Manager, Laura Maitland, overcomes her fear of the cold to fall in love with Finnish Lapland.

In 2019, my partner and I had a few days up our sleeves between a wedding and a work event in Europe, and ended up booking 5 days in Finnish Lapland at the last minute. It was the end of the season (April), so while the snow was plentiful the lodges were very quiet, and we relished the quiet night time walks along the river and the empty spas and ski slopes.

We most enjoyed the safari-like structure of our stay, though: husky drives, snowmobiling and ice fishing in the morning, followed by quiet afternoons watching movies over (hard, of course!) hot chocolates before our night time treks to see the Northern Lights. It was the perfect mix of adventure and rest we’re looking for when we travel. We also had a night in one of the igloo domes overlooking the lake – an absolute highlight!

Now I know I can stand the cold (with the right equipment!!), I’ve firmly set my sights on Antarctica and South Georgia.
