π€ Some great news coming through from the Zei Balas team, who recently played at the 2022 Queensland Murri Carnival. We are so proud of what they achieved as a team, their enthusiasm and bond was electric from start to finish πͺ
"The 2022 Queensland Murri Carnival was held at Redcliffe Dolphins Moreton Daily Stadium from 27 September to 30 October. This is the second team year Zei Balas has participated in the Carnival; however, for most players, this is their first time. In total, we had 21 players, all eager to prove themselves, showcase their skills and represent their mob and communities alike.
Most of our team members have come from remote communities (NPA, Badu, Thursday Island, Weipa, and Napranum). They have travelled by boat, car and multiple flights to participate in the Murri Carnival. For many boys, this is their first time outside their communities. Through rugby league, we have forged friendships with boys from the New South Wales border to the Cape. It is a game that breaks down barriers and has the power to inspire and unite people in a way that little else does. Zei Balas means bonded like brothers; through this, our communities are connected. I am because we are.
As I'm sure you can appreciate bringing our team together from different parts of Queensland was a logistical and administrative feat. A significant portion of this comes down to being able to fund such an endeavour. To our major sponsors, Sunstate, Volvo, Bamaga Enterprise, EPE, and the Anglican Church Grammar School, I would like to express our sincere gratitude for your generous donation to our team. Without your support, this event would not have been the success that it was."
π Great work team Zei Balas!
