🔔 MEDIA RELEASE | Tourism Whitsundays Shares AGM Highlights and Welcomes New Board Member 🔔

Last week, TW held its AGM, releasing our FY23/24 Annual Report. The event was a success, with members and Board directors gathering at Elementa Whitsundays, supported by eastwoods dining & bar.

Last financial year marked a pivotal moment for our tourism industry as we shifted from the highs of post-pandemic domestic visitation back to more traditional travel patterns. The report also highlights a record 968,000 visitors in the year ending June 2024, a 14% increase from pre-COVID levels.

We have also welcomed Elizabeth Hackett to our Board for FY24/25, alongside re-elected members Julie Telford and Matt Boileau.

This week, I had the pleasure of visiting Hayley and Paul at Airlie Health Hub. If you're in the Cannonvale area, be sure to pop in to say hi, enjoy a delicious cup of coffee and a raw treat while you browse their fantastic selection of groceries, cleaning, and health supplies. You won't be disappointed!

Currently in the heart of growing season, sourcing fresh produce directly from local Whitsunday growers every Monday, Paul heads out to the farm to select the best fruit and veggies while gaining insights straight from the farmers themselves.

Right now, tomatoes, pumpkins, capsicums, watermelons, and corn are all the rage. Unlike your typical supermarket, Airlie Health Hub offers clean, real food—no artificial colors, chemicals, or confusing numbers here. Their commitment to quality reflects their passion for supporting small-scale producers and family-run businesses, making a significant impact in our community.

Hayley and Paul have become local favorites, with not just individuals stopping by but also local businesses who are interested in stocking items which are locally sourced and high quality throughout the Whitsunday region. Their friendly smiles and welcoming atmosphere create a space where everyone feels at home.

There are some exciting improvements on the way for the shop, keep your eye out for the next in-store additions!

Sending through a reminder with some important information about parking at this evening’s Tourism Whitsundays AGM and Networking Event.

The event is located at Elementa Whitsundays, however there is no parking available at the venue.

Please park at Port of Airlie Boat and Trailer Carpark. Whitsunday Regional Council has arranged to make parking at the Boat and Trailer Carpark free for the event (see map below)

Transfers by Heart of Reef Shuttles will be running from the Port of Airlie Boat and Trailer Carpark to Elementa from:

- 4pm for the AGM
- Between 5.15pm and 5.50pm for Networking

💙🌴Out And About With Tourism Whitsundays💙

Last week, Paige and I attended "Love Letters to QLD," a heartwarming event at the Coral Sea Resort Hotel as part of the Whitsundays Writers Festival. This special celebration honoured the Queensland writing competition that captured what makes our state truly remarkable. The atmosphere was filled with romance and country pride as we settled in to hear the inspiring words of our speakers.

The event boasted a diverse lineup of special guests, each contributing their unique perspective. Marco Renai, the 2024 Queenslander of the Year, moved us with his heartfelt poetry. Andrew Wilcox MP and Dr. Chris Sarra, CEO of the Office of First Nations Engagement and Innovation, shared their insights and wisdom. Elizabeth Hackett and Dr. Melissa Ashley enriched the evening with their literary contributions, while Karen Jacobson's performance added a touch of magic to the event.

'Love Letters to QLD' was not just a celebration of writing, but a testament to the deep love and pride we hold for our state. It was an evening that beautifully showcased the vibrant community spirit of Queensland and the incredible talent within it, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended.

I took many heartfelt moments away with me from this evening, one of which was spoken by Elizabeth Hackett in her own Love Letter to Qld; Elizabeth wrote, "Love, without a doubt, is the most important thing, love in its romantic form, love in its nurturing form, love born of grief, love born of fulfilling others needs, it is the most wonderful of all feelings."

I find myself constantly inspired by the incredible people within our community and truly appreciate these experiences offered in The Whitsundays. It was a wonderful event; well done to the organisers.

💙🌴Out And About With Tourism Whitsundays🌴💙

This week, Paige and I explored one of our local Whitsunday land-based wonders by joining Whitsunday Segway Tours for an unforgettable adventure!

Expertly guided safely and thoroughly by our host, Zak, I went from slightly nervous to eager as I stepped on the Segway and adjusted my body to synchronize with this incredibly hi-tech machine beneath me. I was surprised at how quickly I adjusted and became comfortably at ease with the Segway.

Once the journey began, the 9km round trip was an absolute feast for the senses. Gliding past towering trees, wildlife and crystal-clear streams, I was amazed by how effortlessly the Segway allowed me to take in the vibrant surroundings.

With an obvious passion and commitment to guide, Zac expertly led us through the Whitsunday Great Walk, sharing fascinating insights about the local flora and fauna and enriching the ride with his local knowledge and stories.

Our halfway moment was nestled amongst the stream at Impulse Creek. Right in the forest's heart, the creek's calm waters provided a perfect spot for a refreshing morning tea, and homemade baked goods replenished our energy perfectly. Sitting by the water, I found peace in the tranquility and beauty of our local rainforest.

This tour is more than just a ride—it's a chance to connect with nature and learn about its wonders. It is highly recommended for an unforgettable land-based Whitsunday adventure.
