Deakin Law School Students,
The Law School is excited to announce that applications for the Law School’s Moot Program are now open. Students who are selected will represent Deakin at a mooting competition and will be enrolled in either the MLL460 or MLJ760 Mooting and Advocacy Unit. Students must have completed at least 6 core law units to be eligible.
Deakin Law School also facilitates student participation in the vibrant Australian and international mooting communities, and provides coaching, financial support and a unit credit to successful applicants. It is a great opportunity to learn advocacy and research skills as well as have something that will look good on your CV. It is also a chance to network with other students (potentially future colleagues) from other law schools.
Deadlines close at midnight 7 May 2023 and students who are selected for the interview stage must be available in Weeks 10 – 11 of T1 2023 for those interviews.
To apply and for more information please visit https://www.deakin.edu.au/students/study-support/faculties/buslaw/student-support/wil/law/mooting-advocacy
An information session will be held at 4pm on the 3rd of April 2023. This can be accessed at https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/moot-program-information-session-tickets-584014100897

BEN- VP OF CAREERS
SPECIAL DLSSG EDITION: MEET THE 2020 DLSS GEELONG COMMITTEE ✨
Meet DLSSG's VP of Careers! 🙋♂️
Hey guys, my name is Ben and I’m a Third Year Law & Commerce (Finance) student. Currently I serve as the Vice-President for Careers on DLSSG. Everyone should get involved with DLSSG as it enhances your University Degree by providing you with invaluable networking experiences. My position on DLSSG enables me to connect Deakin Law Students with the legal industry by running numerous careers events. Feel free to come up to me if you have any careers or DLSSG queries!
FUN TRIVIA ABOUT BEN 🎲
1. What is the best advice you have received?
Don’t compare yourself with others. It’s easy to get caught up in what others are doing, relax and run your own race.
2. What is your favourite movie?
The Fast and the Furious : Tokyo Drift 3 🚗
3. What song should have won triple J’s hottest 100? Covered in Chrome (Violent Soho) 🎼
Meet our 2020 DLSSG Secretary!
SPECIAL DLSSG EDITION: MEET THE 2020 DLSS GEELONG COMMITTEE ✨
Let's now welcome the 2020 DLSS Geelong Secretary 🙋♀️
Hi my name is Tash, I am the current Secretary of the DLSSG and a fifth year Law/International Studies (International Relations) student. I joined the Committee back in 2018 originally on the functions team, as I wanted to help plan great social events to feel more involved in uni life and meet more of our peers.
FUN TRIVIA ABOUT TASH 🎲
1. What is your favourite movie/s?
My two favourite movies of all time are Clueless and Ocean’s Eleven.
2. What's the one food you could never bring yourself to eat?
I hate the taste of honey 🍯
3. What would your perfect vacation entail?
My perfect holiday would involve eating pasta in Italy with COVID-19 never existing! 🍝
Next up, DLSS Geelong Treasurer!
Meet the DLSS Geelong President!
SPECIAL DLSSG EDITION: MEET THE 2020 DLSS GEELONG COMMITTEE ✨
Welcome to the first of our mini-series of posts! Here we'll be introducing each member of the committee so you can see who is hard at work to bring engaging events and opportunities to you!
First up the 2020 DLSS Geelong President 🙋🏻♀️
Hi my name is Emma! I am currently in my fifth year doing Bachelor of Laws/ Bachelor of International Studies, with a major in Politics and Policy study 📚
I have been part of DLSSG for around three years now, in a couple of different portfolios. I wanted to be President this year as it was something I have always wanted to do. Particularly, I wanted to lead the society in a new direction to make it more inclusive and accessible to all Deakin law students.
FUN TRIVIA ABOUT EMMA 🎲
1. If you could eat only one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Definitely, without a doubt, pasta. As an Italian, I am naturally obsessed with pasta and eat it regularly. If we had to get into specifics, I could very happily live off a delicious tagliatelle al pomodoro with an excessive amount of parmesan cheese, and a side of freshly baked bread 🍝 🍝 🍝
2. What is your favourite movie?
My current favourite would have to be Arrival (2016), starring Amy Adams. It is a fantastic sci-fi movie that explores the nuances of communication with extra-terrestrials. It is one of those movies that really makes you think afterwards and somehow no matter how many times you watch it, you’re always able to pick up extra little details.
3. If you could tell your first-year self one thing, what would it be?
It would be to study over Trimester 3. My first year was the only time I haven’t studied over Trimester 3, and while it was a great break, I definitely would’ve loved to have knocked out one or two units then rather than now!
Watch out for more post about other committee members! 👀
