This is probably the hardest post I have ever had to write, and I sit here with tears rolling down my face feeling a sadness I would never be able to describe – but here I go…..

12 years ago I sold the absolute love of my life, a fully restored 1977 Ford XC Falcon 351, 4 speed, to help fund a business I believed in before it started, v**e4life. I still vivedley recall my wife Anna saying “At our age? I will give you 6 months, and if it is losing money, then it closes”. For what it is worth I actually believe in my heart that she also wanted to start this business because we found a product that finally helped us quit smoking – va**ng.

I remember the openings of all our stores:

Thebarton – The week leading up to the opening, every time I was in the shower I would practice speaking to a smoker trying to be convert them into a v**er. It was all new technology at the time, I had limited retail experience, and I was already nervous this venture was going to fail.

Port Adelaide – Totally forgetting we had smoke alarms, the fire department were called twice. Needless to say we invested in thermal smoke alarms the following week

Salisbury – Our dear friends Mark and Debra volunteering their time to cook a bbq for everyone that attended that day

Geelong – This was the hangover opening. Stacks of vendors and the boys from Oz-E Liquid came to this opening, and it is a night I will never forget. Once the day was done, we just kept partying in the shop til all hours.

I also remember going to the opening of Juice Cartel (Bendio), Mister Devices (Newcastle), Clouded Visions (Perth), V**en (Adelaide), D&R (SA and VIC) and heading into a heap of other stores along the way. This is a community, this is our community, and boom………

12 years later and here we are – closed by a government whom have no understanding of our products, our industry and what we have to offer. Unfortunately they are more focused on some bu****it statement about being “World Leaders”, and we are mere victims of a political game for those parties that make back door deals regardless of the outcomes.

First and foremost we would like to thank you, our followers, our customers and loyal supporters of our industry. Without any of you this industry would have died many years ago.

Thanks to all vendors for being a huge part of our journey. Between all of us we managed to find support, guidance and friendship – this will never be lost nor forgotten.

Huge thank you to the team Oz-Eliquid - these lads have played a massive part in our growth, and we are honoured to have been able to support them during the journey. Louis - loves stealing huge as f**k business signs when on the p**s, Joe - has that gypsy pom dont f**k with me look and Liam - wears nice suits and looks pretty.

Finally – the team at v**e4life. This is what I said in our group vendor chat earlier tonight verbatim “The damage this is causing to us personally aside, it is absolutely gut wrenching having to lay off amazing staff from a successful business pulled from under your feet. My staff are so f**king busy today, yet are all still finding the time to break down and cry.....”

Did you read the Bill close enough? Have a look at this screenshot - the exact opposite of what Butler said about personal use!

Butler has now tabled his Bill for the outright ban the retail sale of all va**ng products, but he’s scared. The Nationals, Liberals and now the Greens have all publicly stated they do not support the prescription model. If all three of those parties vote against his Bill, it cannot pass.

We can’t just depend on their word however, we need to make sure they know just how many votes hinge on them keeping their word and voting this bill down. CALLING OUT ALL VA**RS WHO ARE VOTING IN THE DUNKLEY BY-ELECTION

The recent announcement by the Albanese Government to ban all retail sales of va**ng products has sparked a wave of concern amongst the Aussie va**ng community. This decision threatens to not only take away a vital tool that has helped many quit smoking but also exacerbates a dangerous black market.

The consequences of this prohibition approach are dire, with 55 businesses being firebombed, 3 shootings (2 of which were deliberate executions), and law-abiding shops like ours facing threats from organised crime gangs for refusing to sell illegal v**es.

In light of these developments, there is a critical moment upon us this Saturday — the Federal by-election in Dunkley.

This presents a pivotal opportunity for v**ers and supporters of regulated, legal va**ng products to make our voices heard.

By voting in the by-election, we can send a clear and powerful message to the Labor government and all policymakers: we will not stand idly by as the solutions that have significantly contributed to our health and cessation efforts are stripped away, leaving us vulnerable to a rampant black market.

Update from The Va**ng Association of Australia.

Over the past few months, a group of us from the Va**ng Association of Australia has been actively engaged in discussions with key stakeholders to do everything in our power to stop a senseless all out ban on va**ng in Australia. Our primary goal has been to secure support vital for sustaining the law abiding va**ng industry, as it has been since Minister Butler’s scare campaign started in May this year.

So far, the Labor government haven't passed any new legislation that applies to the retail law abiding non ni****ne va**ng industry. Please understand that for Minister Butler to decimate our industry he needs his legislation passed through the Senate. The big media release about an import ban is just the government trying to look strong while nothing changes. The disposables they are saying they will ban on January 1 are already banned – pretty funny that our own Health Minister doesn’t even seem to know what the current laws are!

March 2024 is when the government will come after everything. Between now and March 2024 The Va**ng Association of Australia will continue to collaborate and plan our next steps effectively. The board will be convening in coming weeks to put together a strategic roadmap of action, and part of that will be putting together a policy on va**ng regulation that we believe will work for both the consumer and the regulators.

Over the coming months, whatever Minister Butler releases to the media, or anyone else from within the Labor or those that support Butler is just hot air. Labor have effectively committed themselves now with this approach to our industry so they will continue to go hard, and express decimation for the va**ng industry – do not panic, and please know that The Va**ng Association of Australia are working exceptionally hard to help protect the rights of all retail stores and also you guys, the consumers.

On the back of the TGA “review” this week the Va**ng Association of Australia held a last minute board meeting last night and we had Brian Marlow from Legalise Va**ng Australia join us to help us connect all the dots and put together a strategy. If you have had the opportunity to read the review it most certainly does not look good for the industry at all, however after discussions with Brian and the rest of the board, this is how we understand it:

1. The reforms have NOT passed through Parliament. Before doing so they have to pass through both the Upper and Lower House to enable effect. It is predicted that this will most likely be voted on in the Senate later this year.

2. If the Bill is passed in the Senate in say November, it is expected that it will come into effect in April 2024. From April 2024 retail stores in Australia will have a sell through grace period of 15 months and distributors will have 12 months.

Where to from here? It is clear that the Va**ng Association of Australia and YOU the v**er now need to focus solely at a Federal Level, both Cross Benches and the Greens, and not at State level. The aim here is to try and increase support in getting, at a minimum, changes made to the Bill that will allow our industry to stay at least alive, with regulation changes to suit both the Gov’t and our industry.

From Monday some of the Va**ng Association of Australia will be hammering the cross benches with meeting requests, meanwhile the rest will be focussing on hammering the National Greens to try and get them on board with our industry.

In addition to this, the entire board from the Va**ng Association of Australia will be looking at heading to Canberra in the middle of October to attend a policy forum between the Nationals and Liberals.

WHAT CAN VA**RS DO TO HELP FROM MONDAY?

Not the first time we have asked, and probably not the last time. The Nationals at Federal level NEED TO HEAR YOUR VOICE, and they need to hear it NOW! The Va**ng Association of Australia ask that as many of you as possible write to your National Greens member, and in a nice way explain how Minister Butlers proposal is going to affect you. Explain how you used to be a smoker, explain how this has helped you. What’s also important is that you send the message that you are against disposables, against what they stand for, against what they do to the environment, and against children getting their hands on them especially via the black market. Finally just tell them that you want a just and fair regulation that allows small business to continue, helps you stay off the ci******es and will help minimise black market sales to minors. Tell them if there is only mint or to***co flavours available at Chemists, at inflated prices, you will more than likely revert to smoking again.

If you have family and friends that support your va**ng journey - get them to write to the National Greens, showing support as a non v**er because “my friend”…etc.

Please, in the interest of ensuring your rights as a v**er is protected, along with all the mum and dad business’s, don’t procrastinate and think to yourself “I will do it later” - we don’t have time for this, we really need everyone to jump on this from next week.

Is SA Health really serious in removing illegal disposable va**ng products, or is all the publicity being made really just about appeasing all the Mums and Dads whom have made legitimate complaints? At v**e4life we know they aren’t that serious, and here’s why.

In June 2023, following on from the Federal Ministers proclamation that “all v**es will be banned”, SA Health announced (amongst other things) that in July 2023 they will be raiding numerous v**e stores, corner stores, service stations and any other known shops that sell va**ng products, looking for illegal disposables containing ni****ne. We will say here and now that we do not condone the sale of va**ng products to minors, and we certainly do not condone the sale of the cheap Chinese disposables that have made their way to Australian shops to anyone, child or adult, due to the nature of what they contain and how they are manufactured.

Since this announcement, we and another SA V**e retailer have taken it upon ourselves to try and get a foot into the black market door and we have, quite successfully. During this time, we have taken a plethora of screenshots of black-market sales being advertised within social media chat groups, where to purchase these illegal items and also confirmation each week of incoming stock from overseas (well done Australian Border Force).

Based on all the information that we have collated 3 weeks ago we sent an email to SA Health detailing what information we have and requested that action be taken against these black-market sellers. As a result of the email, a phone conversation was had with a representative of SA Health, and this is the result of the phone call:

1. SA Health admitted that the raids on premises accused of selling illegal disposable v**es weren’t going that well. We did suggest to them that giving the black market 4 weeks’ notice of intent to undertake these raids wasn’t really helping their cause – SAPOL don’t give notice to drug dealers, they just act. The question has to be asked why SA Health would announce these raids in the media – ultimately these sellers are breaking the law, so why wait, just act (it's your job!), or is it all about votes!!

2. SA Health weren’t interested in illegal online black-market sellers, advertising and organising their trade via social media. The question must be asked – WHY??? This is where most of the market in South Australia is operating. Sure, there are some stores still selling these illegal products, but since SA Health openly announced official policing of this (which is what they are paid to do – I don’t announce what I am expected to do to justify my job, I just do it!) these are drying up and everyone is turning to the black market sellers on Social Media.

3. SA Health confirmed that there was nothing that their department, TGA, SAPOL or To***co Control could or would do. The question must be asked – WHY??? These black market sellers are breaking the law, we have SOLID information as to where and how a couple of these high-volume sellers can be found, yet no one will accept responsibility?? This defies imagination to be honest. We are doing part of their job for them by collating all the information yet they still aren't willing to act.

So where does this leave us now? SA Health is all but saying (and by not acting, condoning) that it’s okay to sell illegal products on Social Media, but not in shops. Legitimate v**e stores, those stores that do the right thing, have been facing an ongoing decrease in sales because we do the right thing – people are turning more and more to a FLOURISHING black market. Parents (rightly so) are getting more and more frustrated with the increase in the use of illegal disposables among children. Teachers are getting more and more frustrated with the increase in the use of illegal disposables among children. V**e store owners have legitimate information that will help put a dent in the black-market sales, yet no one really wants to know or take responsibility for actioning this information.

The end result of this is that this highlights that all the loud noise SA Health, the SA Premier and the Federal Health Minister are making is just that – noise. They are all portraying themselves and their departments as taking action and the public is buying all of this when in reality, it is just a hinderance and no one can be bothered. Why are we paying their wages because clearly someone is not doing their job.

This is a huge problem that needs to be tackled head-on. It's not enough to just talk about it, there needs to be real action taken to make sure that the illegal black market sellers are stopped and legitimate v**e stores can continue to operate without fear of being undercut by these illegal sellers. Additionally, slowing down the black market will reduce the availability of illegal disposables to children, because legitimate responsible v**e stores will not sell these.

The authorities need to step up and take responsibility for their actions. They need to investigate these cases thoroughly and make sure that they are doing all they can to combat the illegal black market.

It's time for SA Health, TGA, SAPOL and To***co Control to stop talking about taking action and start doing something about it. If we don't take action now, this problem is only going to get worse - it's time for us all to work together to make sure that the law is enforced properly and the availability of illegal disposables is reduced dramatically.

In the meantime I am going to formally request a Ministerial.

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to give all v**ers an update as to what is happening in the background with Vendors in Australia tackling Minister Butlers draconian approach to wiping out the va**ng industry.

Last year, a group of Vendors from Western Australia joined forces and created what is now known as the Va**ng Association of Australia (aka VAA). The Va**ng Association of Australia is an industry body formed by members of the va**ng industry to represent the interests of specialist, dedicated va**ng businesses, including retailers, manufacturers and distributors. The VAA exclusively caters to these specialist businesses, and has no affiliations with any to***co or pharmaceutical companies, nor do any of its members sell any form of combustible to***co product.

From a financial perspective a large number of VAA members have paid memberships and in addition to this a number of Vendors have dipped further into their own pockets to ensure we have the funds to cover expenses along the way. This is not going to be a cheap exercise, and it isn’t going to happen overnight.

Please see the link to the VAA press release which will give you an idea of where we are at. I would like to add that we are going to continue fighting this hard to protect our businesses and YOUR rights as a consumer to continue to use va**ng products as a means of Ni****ne Replacement Therapy.

Over the coming months the VAA will really need the support of all of you, and for the most part it will be sending out emails and making phone calls. I am aware that a HUGE number of you have already helped in this way, especially over the last couple of years, however, after our recent trip to Canberra, Minister Hughes did go out of her way to point out that we will need to do more of this. Please keep an eye out over the next few months as to how you can help us help you.
