Koalas in the wilds of TNQ.

Another wild book 📖 to enjoy.

Another wild book 📖 to enjoy.

Been very quiet lately on the social media front and I suppose this is a reflection of the amount of work I've been trying to do.

One project that has taken much time is 'A Wild Romance' written by my good friends Clifford and Dawn Frith. Cliff and Dawn who have been monumental in their biological discoveries and photographic documentation of natural history around the world. I have been fortunate to be able to project manage this book and bring it to the world.

Sir David Attenborough had this to say:

"Anyone writing about birds of paradise these days will, knowingly or unknowingly, owe a debt to Clifford Frith. We certainly do. Together with Bruce Beehler, Frith has written the most modern and authoritative ornithological text about the family, The Birds of Paradise (1998). With his wife Dawn he has also made an encyclopaedic survey of the birds' cultural impact in Birds of Paradise: Nature, Art and History (2010)."

Jared Diamond had this to say:

"You are about to read one remarkable book, by two remarkable people, who are famous for at least three reasons: their biological discoveries, their photography, and their relationship.... What has been their secret? Read this book, and figure it out for yourself! And while youare figuring it out, enjoy their great photographs, and learn from their remarkable discoveries.”

Please come to the Book Launch:
6th October at Tableland Regional Gallery
5-7pm.
16 Robert Street, Atherton, Queensland.

A great new children's book from local traditional owner Trevor Fourmile.
19/06/2023

A great new children's book from local traditional owner Trevor Fourmile.

Gurril could not understand why everyone was afraid of a snake, even if it was Gudju-gudju, the rainbow serpent! But he was soon to discover just how powerful Gudju-gudju really was and why it is not a good idea to torment the rainbow serpent.

Gurril, Storm Bird is a Gimuy Walubara (pronounced ghee-moy-wah-la-burra) Yidinji traditional story that helps to explain the cultural beliefs held by the Yidinji First Nations People of Cairns. The Gimuy Walubarra are one of the traditional custodian peoples of Cairns and the surrounding regions.

This story has been told orally by many generations over thousands of years and is intrinsic to the Yidinji culture, both past and present. The call of the storm bird helps the Yidinji people prepare for the arrival of rain or the wet season. During the dry season the Gimuy Walubara people would dance and mimic the storm bird to bring in the rain.
