Happy World Oceans Day.

Here’s 7 facts about our oceans:

1. The ocean makes our planet habitable. Our ocean couldn’t be more important - it makes life on Earth possible. 🌏

2. The ocean regulates climate and weather. It protects us by absorbing 93% of climate change heat.

3. Humans are entirely dependent on the ocean. It produces 70% of the oxygen we breathe.

4. The ocean is the planet’s largest carbon sink hole. How? When sea creatures 💩 or die, the carbon is safely stored at the bottom of the ocean.

5. There is only 1 ocean. The ocean is our planet’s life-support system. If it fails, we don’t have a backup.

6. Our world is shaped by ocean life. It’s powerful enough to carve mountains, and ocean systems work at such an epic scale to solve our greater global challenges.

7. Over 80% of our ocean is unmapped, unobserved and unexplored. Much remains to be learned from exploring the mysteries of the deep. 🗺️

Lakes Entrance is situated on the edge of the Ninety Mile Beach where the Gippsland Lakes meets the Southern Ocean.

There’s always something happening in Lakes Entrance and today was no exception. The Lake was alive again this morning with the Gippsland Jersey Sip & Plunge.

There’s nothing more invigorating than a plunge in the Gippsland Lakes especially when it is promoting better mental health & kicking depression & winter blues in the butt.

Big thanks to Surf Life Saving Lakes Entrance for the water support & Big Bears Donuts The Servo & Venture Out for the prizes.

Lakes Entrance lit up by lanterns last night 🏮

Many thanks to all the locals and visitors who turned out in force with their lanterns to celebrate the East Gippsland Winter Festival. It was a great night - we may have had a milkshake or 4 from Gippsland Jersey and more than 1 serving of traditional Greek donuts from The Honey Puff Chicks. Finished off with some burgers from Salty Groms Cafe. Perfect way to spend a Saturday evening.

Lakes Entrance turned on a spectacular afternoon for the Winter Festival Market & Lantern Parade. There were plenty of things to see as you walked along the the footpaths near the footbridge before the Lantern Parade kicked off.

Happy Winter Solstice at 7:13pm (Southern Hemisphere), the time when the South Pole reaches it’s maximum tilt away from the sun.
It’s also the shortest day and longest night of the year. A great time to celebrate a wonderful region full of amazing creative talent, great produce, rich cultural heritage and spectacular natural scenery.

Being on holidays is all about splurging and doing all the fun things. When visiting Lakes Entrance, make sure you feed your inner kid by visiting .
This box of goodies (Homer Simpson, Musk Stick, Sticky Date & Nutella) disappeared pretty quick, but boy were they good 🍩

It’s happening folks - the Lakes Entrance Lantern Festival is back!! Make sure you are in Lakes Entrance on Saturday 25 June to check out this fantastic event.

Bring the kids, check out the market stalls, sample from a food truck or two, take in some great live music and watch the parade at night. Why not even buy a lantern and take part in the parade yourself.

IT’S BACK! The Lakes Entrance Lantern Festival is returning on Saturday 25th June to celebrate the winter solstice and our wonderful part of East Gippsland.

A team of volunteers are working hard to ‘Light up the Lake’ and illuminate the night sky with a parade of beautiful hand-made lanterns – many created by local school children.

The afternoon will start at 2pm with local market stalls, great food trucks and live music.

The parade will commence at 6pm and will be lead by the local CFA (assemble from 5:30pm at the Rotunda). If you don’t have a lantern you will be able to purchase one on site prior to the parade.

This is a family friendly, fun and free event! Get our your winter woolies, gather some friends and have a wonderful evening in Lakes Entrance!
