A great night with great friends with another McLaren Vale Shiraz. You can always depend on the d'Arenberg Footbolt Shiraz and the 2015 was a nice way to end the night.

TarraWarra Estate The 2016 Tarrawarra Estate Roussanne Marsanne Voignier is a wonderful blend with flavors of honeysuckle, apricot, lemon with a creamy finish. A beautiful wine to have in your glass when paired with fish.

TarraWarra Estate The 2015 Chardonnay has flavors of oak, lemon and grapefruit. With its light color and smooth finish, it’s great for a summer bbq or evening dinner.

TarraWarra Estate The 2015 South Block Chardonnay is a wine that’s whole bunch pressed and aged in French Oak. With hints of citrus, honey and oak. It’s has a refreshing and long finish.

I was having a chat to a sommelier friend from South Africa when I was home late last year and he mentioned and he told me about some amazing South African wines, so when I was out at dinner the other night I decided to try this Kanonkop Wine Estate Paul Sauer 2014 even though it was a little younger than I would have liked. I was nicely surprised and can taste why it’s won lots of international awards. A Bordeaux Cabernet blend its definitely bold and complex and has a fantastic deep ruby colour.

I’ve only recently discovered Nero d’Avola when I visited Santolin Wines in Victoria, Australia. So the other night I was drawn to this Sicilian Lamuri Nero d'Avola 2014 by Tasca d'Almerita.

Lamùri, or “love” in Sicilian dialect, is made entirely from hand-harvested Nero d'Avola grapes. I really enjoyed this wine with its intense ruby-red colour and rich fruity flavour, and the more I read about the winery with a history that dates back 200 years the more I want to visit it.

I’ve landed in Lviv, Ukraine and thought celebrating exploring a new city was in order! This cava was not only appropriate for a celebration it was a great wine discovery. The Recaredo Terrers Brut Nature Gran Reserva 2009 from Catalonia, Spain is elegant and refreshing cava produced using the traditional Champagne method, plus its certified biodynamic and aged for at least five years before release. It was so good it sits up there with my favourite champagnes!

It was great to cool off from the heat in Melbourne yesterday with a Dexter Chardonnay Merricks from the Mornington Peninsula and an amazing Paradise Beach Cocktail (vodka, paraiso lychee liqueur, lime, lychee, soda) The Rocks Mornington.

Sake, aka rice wine, technically isn’t wine because it’s brewed, but it is one of our favourite drinks. This Amanoto Junmai Daiginjo is a beautiful example of Japanese’ focus on perfection with a crisp citrus flavour with slight sweetness and a clean finish thanks to the rice milled to 35% of its original size. The brewery’s name, Amanoto, means heaven’s door and is located in Akita in the snowy northern part of Japan. It is the smallest producer in it’s region and everything in this Sake is truly local with rice sourced within 5kms and water from nearby rivers & springs. The Junmai style Sake is brewed only with rice and water, with no alcohol adjustment.

Receiving a bottle of Leconfield & Richard Hamilton Wines The Sydney Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 from a friend made drinking this elegant Coonawarra red extra special. Leconfield is regarded as one of the great Cabernet Sauvignon producers in Australia, fulfilling an ambitious dream of wine maker Sydney Hamilton to make a classic Australian Cabernet Sauvignon.

Happy New Year! We’re welcoming 2018 with a summer favourite, Dominique Portet Wines Brut Rosé a traditional-method sparkling produced in the Yarra Valley Victoria, Australia. Wine maker Dominique Portet is from a winemaking family that stretches back 10 generations in Bordeaux, with his father Andre Portet régisseur of Chateau Lafite-Rothschild in Pauillac.

Santolin Wines The Cosa Nostra label of the 2016 Nero D’Avola by Santolin Wines, was a wine that took us by surprise when we first tasted it. As an Australian wine this is very different to most wines on the market. But the bold move to do a 100% native Italian grape variety for the Australian market pays off! This is a smooth wine with dark berry flavors that has been one of our favorites since we’ve discovered Santolin Wines. If you can find it, we suggest you try it. We are sure you will not be disappointed!

Santolin Wines An amazing hand picked blend of whole bunch and whole fruit. This 2015 Pinot Noir took us by surprise with its sensational tastes of plum and cherry. In 2020+ you will be astounded at the beauty of this wine! With only 300 cases produced, it’s safe to say this will not be available on the market for very long.

Santolin Wines Cosa Nostra is the second range for Santolin Wines, to reflect the “Old World” style of wines. With light flavors of pear and lychees, this wonderful addition to the Australian wine range is a limited production with only 120 cases available. Cellar this wine and reap the rewards in several years.

Santolin Wines With a little time out of the bottle this beautiful Chardonnay was wonderful and easy to drink. The simplicity of this wine makes it even more impressive because it is so enjoyable to drink.

Santolin Wines is not a high volume winery, only choosing to produce the highest quality wines with the highest quality fruits and it shows. Adrian Santolin’s general philosophy of “It’s not what you put in, but it’s what you leave out” means that his wines have the minimum amount of outside influence. The wines he produces are high quality and true to the nature of the fruit itself. Which shows in the taste of the only real true indicator, the bottle of wine you open and love!

Santolin Wines Winemaker Adrian Santolin was literally born and raised in a vineyard. Worked for his very first winery as a young teenager, he learned what it takes to make great wine. Adrian started Santolin wines in early 2017 after nearly 20 years in the wine industry with the goal to make his wines well known.

This wonderful Pinot Noir is definitively made to be cellared for several years. This is going to be a winner in the long term with the right cellaring. Only 240 bottles of this 97 point wine was released and is rarely produced, as the highest quality conditions and grape is required!

As we say goodbye to this vineyard, Wine Revolutionary would like to thank Brad Rathbone and the rest of the Rathbone family for their hospitality and generosity to the Children’s Cancer Foundation of Australia.

Yering Station is not about making money, but making their winery the best, even winning “International Winery of the Year” in 2004.

Yering Station in the 1850’s this building was converted for winemaking as Yering Station owners took winemaking much more seriously. With just 40 years of vine growth and winemaking experience, Yering Station was awarded the top award (Grand Prix) at the Paris Universal Exhibition in 1889, one of 14 awards to have ever been presented internationally in history!
