Wellness Wednesdays - Daffodil Day Edition ๐ŸŒผ๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ’›

Pictured are clients from our Community Cancer Class yesterday. Of course our beautiful PT Dea made sure our clients each left with a beautiful Daffodil, signifying the journey each of our clients has made through Cancer.

For more information on Daffodil Day and what it represents, please read below.
For more information on our Community Cancer classes please visit the link in the comments. To anyone impacted by Cancer, and the loved one's supporting those with Cancer - we see you, we pray for you and we continue to hope for more scientific breakthroughs to stop the lives lost to this disease.

On this day, Australians all over the country come together and, for all that cancer takes, we give hope. We give to support people impacted by cancer and we give to support cancer research that will save lives.

In 2023, Australians gave a bunch for Daffodil Day, raising $2.5 million towards lifesaving cancer research. This year, we would love to have your vital support once more.

We know that almost 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer by the age of 85, so it takes all of us to give hope for better treatments and better outcomes. The more hope we give, the more lives we can save. That's why we're encouraging you to give it your all by registering to fundraise or by donating this Daffodil Day.

Daffodil Day 2024 is Thursday, 22 August but you can get involved and help support this special day any time throughout the month.

MEET OUR TEAM!๐Ÿ“ฃ๐Ÿซ‚

Everyone we would love to introduce you to Tegan Chaplin!๐Ÿ’ซ

Tegan has recently commenced with PCC as our new AOD trainee (Alcohol and Other Drugs).

Tegan says she wanted to join the team in this role due to wanting to help people.
โ€œI have my own lived experience with a loved one being impacted by substance use. I am really passionate about wanting to support people through their challenging times, not allowing people to feel isolated and overwhelmed,โ€ Tegan said.
โ€œThere is definitely a light at the end of the tunnel and I want people to know that.โ€

Tegan has two beautiful little girls, aged 6 and 9 who keep her busy and active. She loves the football (GO CARLTON!๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿค), and loves to go camping whenever she gets the chance.

One of Teganโ€™s first projects has been assisting with our campaign and making sure that our event next week is organised.
If you have been impacted by overdose, or have lost a loved one to overdose, please join us for our tribute lunch happening next Wednesday, August 28 from 11:30am โ€“ 2:30pm.

MEET OUR TEAM!๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ‘ฅ๐Ÿซ‚

Everybody - it is our pleasure to introduce you to our Community Health Nurse servicing our Women's Health and Sexual Reproductive clinic...AIMEE BICE!

Aimee originally hails from the Goulburn Valley area, but lived in the NT and WA for 10 years before returning in 2017 (lucky for us!)

Aimee says, "I have a special interest in remote area nursing and working with First Nation communities. I currently split my time between Primary Care Connect and Rumbalara Aboriginal Co-Operative. My passion for nursing stems from my own lived experience. Iโ€™m a passionate and vocal advocate for clients who are experiencing disadvantage. I use my knowledge to connect clients with services based on their unique needs."

"I approach these connections with compassion, tenacity and perseverance! Our clients are judged and often stigmatised, so it gives me great pleasure to offer kindness and empathy during some of the most personal times of our clients lives."

Aimee takes the rights of her clients confidentiality seriously and has the ability to connect clients with doctors and/or other service providers and hospital settings either locally, or to metropolitan Melbourne to maintain confidentiality which, in a tight-knit community can prove challenging at times.

Aimee's wicked sense of humour is something we love most about her and comes through with her closing statement which is, "I know lots about nothing, navigating complex health systems and breaking down complicated information."

For further information about PCC's Women's Sexual Reproductive Health Clinic please visit:

PLEASE NOTE: ๐Ÿฉท
No referrals are required to come and see Aimee at our clinic. Appointments are free and anybody identifying as female within our region is eligible for this care.
If you would like to know more, or would like to book in for an appointment, please don't hesitate to contact our friendly Consumer Care team on 03 5823 3200.

DID YOU KNOW?!

Women's Health Week is celebrated annually from the 2 until the 6 September and this year the theme is, "Your Choice, Your Voice!"

It's a wonderful testament, but sadly globally we know millions of women are not empowered with choice, or a voice. In Australia we are in a much more fortunate position - but we also know that regional and rural women suffer inequity when it comes to high quality, health and sexual reproduction healthcare.

That is why this Women's Health Week - Primary Care Connect wants to shed a light on Women's Health and to make sure our community is aware of the services available to them locally.

DID YOU KNOW?! - that Primary Care Connect has its very own Women's Sexual Reproduction and Health clinic available at our facility at 399 Wyndham street, Shepparton? Our clinic is available to anybody who identifies as female a provides a range of services including:
- STI information and support
- Emergency contraception
- Pregnancy options
- Cervical screening
- Pregnancy testing
- Counselling

There are no eligibility requirements to access this free service. Our Women's Clinic is supported by our Women's Health Nurse, Aimee and is a confidential service.

Arkid also provides education sessions on how to screen for gambling harm and raise awareness about the Gamblers Help support services available to the community. These sessions are delivered to medical professionals, city councils, service providers, workplaces, multicultural communities, and wider community members.

Arkid began his journey in the gambler's help industry working as a manager at a pokies venue before commencing his role at PCC. Arkid wanted to be a part of the change and use his expertise to better support the community.

An interesting fact about Arkid is he is a qualified commercial pilot and his favourite aircraft to fly is an American Champion Decathlon which is an aerobatic aircraft.

In 5 years, Arkid would like to be flying planes full time.๐Ÿ‘จโ€โœˆ๏ธ
