Papua New Guinea citizens are now eligible for the Australia Work and Holiday Visa. This visa, Applicable to PNG citizens aged 18 to 30 permits eligible individuals to work and stay in Australia for up to 12 months (with the option to extend the visa). Papua New Guinea citizens must have successfully completed at least two years of post-secondary study and meet qualification levels set by the Australian government.

During the 2023 Federal Budget one significant announcement was the increase in partner Visa Application Charges (VACs).

The primary applicant for a partner or marriage visa will now pay an estimated $8570.00 to the government. In our view the increase will present many challenges for potential applicants who are already stressed over cost of living increases,

From July 6 2022, the way you ​travel to and from Australia has changed. All travellers should be aware that:
People entering Australia do not need to provide evidence of vaccination status
People entering Australia do not need to complete the Digital Passenger Declaration or Maritime Travel Declaration
People leaving Australia will not be asked to provide evidence of their vaccination status
Unvaccinated visa holders do not​ need a travel exemption to travel to Australia
Masks are still required on flights travelling to Australia.

S48 Bar Lifted
From 13 November 2021, applicants who are subject to section 48 bar may now be eligible to make a valid visa application onshore for these skilled visa classes:

• Skilled Nominated (Permanent) Subclass 190
• Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Subclass 491
• Skilled Employer-Sponsored Regional (Provisional) Subclass 494

This change in the legislation will facilitate applications in Australia for those prevented from leaving due to COVID-19 related travel restrictions. To be eligible you should meet all other requirements for making a visa application.

This is a welcome step from the Government one which will provide relief for skilled workers impacted by s48 and a boost for Australia's economic recovery.
