My gorgeous talented daughter in law showing some of her stunning new range featuring “Maasai tartan” in the most beautiful colours of blue and copper.
All made by and modelled by the family .. my son Conor and granddaughter Arabella.
So much admiration for this business which she started with a sewing machine and a lot of style.

These bags are fabulous.. lined, with pockets, strong, stylish and they bring joy. And the hat and hair ornaments so lovely.
Great gifts too!

A few weeks ago I met one of Ernest Shackleton’s descendants in Ireland and we spoke of his incredible ancestor who journeyed to Antarctica and attempted to cross the ice -at first in a ship - called the Endurance -then as a rescue mission for his stranded crew.
It’s a remarkable story and seeing some early footage in the VR Thin Ice was wonderful .. and then to have the story told with photos and re-enactments . .. love visiting museums

Big French Gourmet Safaris Day this coming Saturday .. a day of the best cheese, baguettes, croissants, exceptional ingredients from butter to truffles and restaurant quality meat, a champagne and chocolate tarting, 3 course lunch with wine.. including this touch-your-heart French onion soup from …
This is what one of our guests from last safari said:
“I came on the tour from a recommendation from a fellow work colleague who did the same tour a few months ago and I will be certainly spreading the word of how fabulous it is. Guide Alex is so knowledgeable and charming and Ali is an awesome driver, we had an amazing day!

We learnt so many new things from Michael about the French pastries and bread and the way they are made, and from Sogna about the beautiful cheeses and their origins, and how to store and care for our own cheeses.

David Bitton at his restaurant was such an amazing person to listen to and very playful as well.
Thank you all again for such a magnificent first timer foodie tour. I’ll be bank again for certain!”

Tasmanian handmade gifts from my visit last week.. what treasures! Like a warm hug… from Judith who I worked with on Taste of Tasmania for a number of years came to Mel’s launch of with the most charming hand knitted cotton useful things .. face washers/ hand wipers.
And she had folded the gift box herself!
We all need to learn that skill.

Gorgeous to be remembered so fondly .. and wow what a gift from the heart and clever hands..
Plus from Sue and Noel (friends of Mel’s .. never met) the most deeply delicious tomato relish with whole spices. Slathered over melting cheese toasties. Mmm..

New dishes on the menu .sydney and we couldn’t have been happier .. traditional Turkish flavours, largely plant-based .. each mouthful a gift.
First pic is Kadinbudu kofte ..mushrooms, rice and lentils dressed with a twinkle of gold… set to be a new favourite …plus leeks, octopus, kingfish collars grilled .. spicing so assured.. the green dip is a whipped feta, pistachios, seeet and sour grapes, dill and basil. Chef you are on fire!

What a brilliant night in Hobart for my friend Mel launching her book

A packed audience and record sales after a great chat about what motivated her to take “life long service leave” in Thailand.

It’s a moving story of one woman rescuing her life, taking time after tumultuous years supporting and advocating for her husband suffering from PTSD and depression after his extended duty in Afghanistan and Iraq.
A story of learning a language and the charm and joy in time with Thai people.
So very proud of Mel’s achievement … in writing and finding editors and designers and self publishing this great and inspiring read.

After living out of suitcases for the past couple of months, I’ve come home and decided to gather some of my favourite pieces to be sold through .resell.relove

I did this once before - renting a rack - and it’s such a great thing to do. Love the circular economy. Love that good clothes can find a new home and I get some space in my cupboard ready for the next adventure.
Not pricing them high … and including some lovely Custo and Desigual that I’ve worn on TV.

They’re clothes that make you feel happy. Priced to sell.
Rack will be in Manly from@l tomorrow - cool place to visit with its pine trees and surf beach (one block from the shop) , cafes and accessible by ferry. And there’s parking right next to the store.

The first pic is Cos dress; then Melbourne label Leonard St;
From this Thursday. Open 10 - 5pm 7 Rialto Lane

Ah it’s found! A story I wrote last century for the Sydney Morning Herald on the group of top Indian chefs working in Sydney. The Taj Boys is such a charming story .. of how they all trained at the Taj group of hotels, came to Australia.. and supported each other. Love their conversation on horror customers (pic2) asking for a mild vindaloo .. and a table of 4 ordering a single thali plate (!!) ..love the cover photo too.
I’d lost this story and in celebrating 34 years in business one of the chefs Binny K Phillip still had a copy.
Congratulations to our dear friend .mahadevan whose sold out dinners over the next 5 nights are nothing short of spectacular.
What a celebration of the dishes he’s created over the years.
Thank you for an incredible dinner and your friendship and wrapping us in to your family. For appearing on our Food Safari series and continuing to host lunches in our brilliant Spice Safari.

Our French Safari on Saturday continuing to get rave reviews from our guests.. these pics from Frances who wrote this glowing review : “What a fabulous day it was. I highly recommend Gourmet Safaris!” Frances' Foodie Forays has the full glowing review!
And this from guest Kim-

My husband and 2 friends and I would like to say how delighted we were to be able to go on the French adventure with guide Alex and our bus driver Ali today.

Alex is so knowledgeable and charming and Ali is an awesome driver, we had an amazing day.

We learnt so many new things from Michael about the French pastries and bread and the way they are made, and from Sogna about the beautiful cheeses and their origins, and how to store and care for our own cheeses.

David Bitton at his restaurant was such an amazing person to listen to and very playful as well. He even surprised us with an extra dish of mulled wine poached pear, and ice cream and crumble, which we were told is never normally served. This was a special for Bastille Day.

I came on the tour from a recommendation from a fellow work colleague who did the same tour a few months ago and I will be certainly spreading the word of how fabulous it is.

Thank you for you lovely words and thanks to our hosts

and
and Ruth!

What a day!

The absolute joy of home cooked Sri Lankan food while visiting my friend Shiranie. This was meant to be a “cup of tea visit” .. but was a feast of freshly made coconut roti, two sambals, coconut rice and beef smore .. deeply delicious slow cooked chuck steak with all the spices and pandan and curry leaves .. all eaten with hands.
Surely I have the best job in all the world..

How’s this for a plot - fun, smart woman turns 50 and after many unexpected twists and turns of life, decides it time for “life long service leave” and she leaves fabulous home, husband, fur babies to immerse in Thailand and continue language classes (she spent time there as a teenager) and live like a Thai (so many delicious dishes and I guarantee you’ll be hanging for mango and sticky rice )… think Eat Pay Love done a little differently.
I’m honoured to launching the book of Mel’s experiences on Thursday 25th July at Fullers Bookshop in Hobart.
It’s going to be a cracking, colourful, funny and emotional evening. Booking fast - we’d love to see you!
