Voyageur Selections

Voyageur Selections Voyageur Selections is where I bring my love of wine and travel together, as the brand ambassador of some of the most amazing wine producers in the world. Hi!

My name is Kavita and this is the space where I bring my love of wine and travel together. Im a sommelier from Sydney, Australia who has the very fortunate job of representing some of the most amazing wine producers in the world throughout Asia, a continent so varied in culture and cuisines that in one moment you can be seated at a Michelin starred table, the next down a side street eating fried g

rasshoppers from a banana leaf. Glass of Pinot anyone? In its own exotic way, Asia is embracing the wine world with both hands and a thirst for knowledge and all things exciting and new, like no other place in the world. This journey will NOT be about points/scores or endless wine adjectives, it is before all else about people and their stories. As with life, wine is more than merely the sum of its parts. There are names and faces behind every label I represent and a history in every sip. This page, the website and my blog is all about introducing you to the people who bring joy to the wine world. We’ll get amongst it in the vineyards so that you can virtually smell how sweet the air is and then take the plunge into Asia, where we venture down sidestreets and into some of the regions’ best restaurants and bars. Call me an old romantic or a wine guzzling gypsy (my friends do!), but in all of my travels it is the people I have met and the stories they have told that are my most prized souveniers. Come on this adventure with me and be transported to places that only very few wines on the planet can take you. Join my mailing list for weekly postcard mail outs and follow me on twitter, instagram and facebook for wine guzzling gypsy updates

Just back from India, I thought it would be the perfect time to publish my interview with one of my favourite Indian importers - Vishal from Winepark.
http://voyageurselections.com/importer-chitchat-2/

I lived and worked in India from 2008 to 2010. At the time I was the regional cellar master for Amanresorts looking after South-Asia, based in New Delhi.Often when I told people I worked in India people look at me puzzled and asked – why? As though I had signed up for voluntary torture. Its fairly s…

The wines you want to be drinking...right now! As in, right this second, even if it isn't lunch time yet!

Since returning home to Australia it has been nice to remove my sommelier hat for the first time in a decade and really just be a true consumer for a moment. Drinking wine without thinking about which restaurant it would go well in, what the consumer perception of it would be and at what price point…

Surely the only heavy metal and fairy tale inspired wine label...read more about the story behind Burn Cottage

http://voyageurselections.com/labellust-burn-cottage/

Burn Cottage is seriously awesome stuff. Made in Central Otago, New Zealand – everything about this wine is cool – the people behind it, the labels and most importantly the wine itself. On visiting the property it was easy to see the cool-factor runs far deeper than its label. An immaculate bio-dynam…

The Middle East is plagued with conflict and uneasiness amid Islamic extremism, waning oil prices, political turnover, age old sectarian tensions, and a cacophony of criticism bellowed from around the world. Human rights’ violations are the norm; murders rampant in the streets; poverty amok. Yet a…

I thought there was no better place to start the winery design series than the cellars of Vińa Tondonia in the beautiful town of Haro, in the region of Rioja, Spain where the López de Heredia family have succeeded in magical unification of both ancient and modern architecture.

SPEAK UP! And be heard...the video from our panel discussion at Wine Day Out is now live. Hopefully everyone can take some time this week to watch it and have a think about how important it is listen to the powerful (female) community of retailers, winemakers, viticulturists, somms, and most importantly CONSUMERS who can and are making both the Australian and global wine industry more vibrant, diverse and interesting.

Worth Celebrating! I thought there was no better way to begin this blog, then by writing about the tasting experience that over my last decade working as a sommelier, made me feel more fortunate than ever to be part of the wine industry. http://voyageurselections.com/worth-celebrating/

Checkout the first post in our series where we learn more about the inspiration behind the seriously awesome labels at Vinteloper.

The first winery to be featured in had to be Vinteloper. They were actually the labels that inspired me to make talking about labels, the graphics and the design of them, a regular feature of this blog. The Labels!Hence, it was only natural that we spoke to David Bowley owner and winemaker…

The way wine is used as a character device for women on TV tells us a lot about how it is viewed in popular culture.
