Geoff won a charter voucher at Tim the Bream last September and fished with me this morning. Nice little Estuary Cod, 49cm, by catch chasing Mangrove Jacks. On a plastic, 4lb + 12lb leader, great effort. We fished the deep and shallows after the sun got up and only scored a few small Flattys, plus a bust off on a decent fish on a snag in the deep after a 10min fight.

Coco scored her first fish on lure this morning, a just legal Bream. Not the little Mangrove Jack I thought it was by the way I saw it hit the lure, taking line. Punched above it's weight. On my favourite Ando Lure too.

DUSKY flathead can be found along the east of coast of Australia from Cairns in north Queensland to the Gippsland lakes in eastern Victoria. In Queensland, dusky flathead is a key target species, with the recreational fishing sector estimated to take 150 tonnes annually (McGilvray et. al 2014).

No bookings for today. So me and a mate, Grant, went to sea for the day. A quick troll produced this little Black Marlin, and a Wahoo. We were going to release the Black but it nearly jumped into the boat, it put on a great show tail walking, in the process it landed on the rod holder in the background and tore a gash around it's throat, unfortunately not releasable. First Marlin I have captured in 14yrs fishing for them.

Happy Straya Day everyone.

Take a good look at this fish! This is a Peacock Bass, an inhabitant of the mighty Amazon River but this Peacock was taken below Dumbleton Weir on the Pioneer River near Mackay. The fishers grapevine reports that a number of these highly invasive fish were released above the Weir recently. There are no words to describe the FISHERIES TERRORISTS who committed this act of sabotage on the integrity of our fishery. We already have Tilapia in many of our northern streams - the cane toads of our waterways - but Peacocks take this dire threat to our environment to another level entirely. They are prolific breeders and pose an extreme threat to our native species Fisheries and Quarantine need to catch the vandals who released these fish and prosecute them to the highest degree. Chuck them in jail with the other terrorists would be my recommendation. If you know who they are, phone the Fisheries & Boating Patrol or the police. If you catch a Peacock Bass, make sure you KILL it immediately, take a photo and report the catch to Fisheries.
