New requirements for VISA in Malta as from January 1st, 2024.

Applicants working in the hospitality sector

Cleaners, Housekeepers, Waiters, Receptionist, Chef, Kitchen Helpers, Bar Person, Room Attendant, Pool Attendant, Door Man (Security), Baggage Porter, Food Couriers and any job related to hotel, restaurant or bar industry

When an applicant submits his application, he will be asked to do an ITS course, which costs € 450 online. The course will include (besides) basic topics related to the job an overview of the Maltese Tourist Product and your English Language. If the applicant passes this test, then the approval of principle letters will be issued, and the applicant will be able to travel to Malta, but that does not mean he can work. If the applicant fails this test, he will not be allowed to travel to Malta, and no resubmissions are allowed.

Once the applicant arrives in Malta, he needs to book a face to face interview with ITS again, which costs € 125, and they will reasign what he learned during the online course and will also check his English language. If the applicant fails this interview, he will be sent back to his country. If the applicant pass this test, they will issue him a skill card so that he will be able to work in Malta.

As of 1st October 2024, the same process will apply for applicants that are already in Malta, and if they fail, they will not have their card renewed again and will have to leave Malta.

Additional Basic Maltese Language will also be asked for applicants for their third year and onwards.
