The kira and the gho are the traditional costume for the women and men in Bhutan, and are required to be worn by government officials, tour guides and by locals visiting dzongs.

The kira is like a strapless wrap maxi dress. The dress typically consists of an ankle length long rectangular woven cloth wrapped around the body, pinned down at both shoulders with brooches, koma, and tied at the waist with a belt. An alternative, is an-ankle length wrap skirt. The dress or skirt is worn with an inner long-sheeved blouse, a wonju, and an outer short jacket, a toego. The attire is finished with a sash, the rachu, placed over the left shoulder.

The gho is a knee-length robe tied at the waist by a cloth belt known as the kera and worn with a wrap, the kabney.

Pictures of our traditional dressed worn during Thimphu Tshechu festival where people gathered in their finest Ghoโ€™s and Kiraโ€™s in a celebration of their culture.

Jangtsa Dumtseg Lhakhang

The temple is notable as it is in the form of a chorten, very rare in Bhutan.

Purpose of building the temple:
The temple was built by Thangtong Gyalpo in the 15th century corresponding to the year 1433/1434. It is a three-storey structure with the external features of a stupa. The 25th Je Khenpo Ngawang Jampel Sherab Gyaltshen renovated the temple whereby he also built a temple around it at the base in the year 1821 corresponding to 14th Rabjung.
When Thangtong Gyalpo, the great meditation master visited Paro, he found that that the place between Pachu and Dochu rivers was plagued with leprosy.
The cause of it he found was the Taktshang mountain ridge ending in this village which bears the shape of a poisonous snake descending on to the valley. It also resembled a frog lying on its belly with its right arm in the village of Ramakha and the left arm planted in Jangsar Village with its nose and mouth projecting directly into the area where the temple stands today. In order to nullify the negative effect of this frog like ridge did the master build this temple. It is said that the numbers of leprosy patients started to decline soon thereafter.

The memorable 22 day long spiritual journey to Bhutan with Lama Loten has successfully come to an end. The tour ended with a visit to the most sacred site, Taktsang (Tigers Nest).
We bid a fond farewell on the early morning of 20th Aug, of course with a heavy heart and deep sense of gratitude for the karmic force that brought us together.
We are already looking forward to another memorable spiritual journey to Bhutan. We deeply thank Lama Loten for trusting us with organizing his trip in Bhutan.

Dzongdrakha Goenpa

According to Chhojugun Lhosar Ngagyen, in the 13th century, a Ngingmapa lama, Karzhi Rinchen Samten Pelzang dreamt of a khandrum, instructing him to go to a place called Zhungphug in Moen Yuel, where the treasures of Ugyen Rinpoche were hidden. Lam Karzhi Rinchen Samten Pelzang then shared his dream with a dedicated disciple, Drupthog Gyenpo Dorji from Latoet Jangdrog Taktsheit who later followed the instruction given to Lam Krzhi Rinchen Samten Pelzang by the khandrum in his dream.

Drubthog Gyonpo Dorji then proceeded towards Moen Yuel in 1428, in Earth Bird Year, in search of the place called Zhungphug in Paro. It is said that when he reached a riverside and didnโ€™t know where to go, a jackal came and showed him the direction to Zhungphug. Thus, this particular place came to be known as โ€œWachuโ€, the place presently known as โ€œWoochuโ€. The Drubthog along with the jackal, however, followed the right side of the river and reached near a cave where they met a dumb boy who miraculously spoke for the first time as soon as he saw the โ€˜Drubthogโ€. It was then, when the Drubthog saw the extreme joy of the family that he named it the โ€œGhadrakโ€. The mother as gratitude to the Drubthog sponsored him food and clothes during his meditation period.

Chumbu Ney

It's a 5 hours walk from the road point. The Hike begins with the opening gate (Zee Go) formed by two standing rocks. There are many rocks and caves formation associated with Guru Rinpoche and each of it has story and its significance.

The striking feature of the Temple is the Dorji Phagmo (The flying Goddess) statue , commonly known as โ€œfloatingโ€ statue. Dorji Phagmo is also known as Vajravarahi.
This statue is very sacred and ancient as itโ€™s believed that the Goddess Dorji Phamo flew from Tibet and stayed on in the form of a statue. She is a life size statue and believe it or not, her one leg is crossed at the knees and the other is standing but does not touch the ground.
Some people test this belief by passing a money note below her feet and it passes through smoothly without a hitch.

The other site to visit at Chumbu is the Guru Rimpoche Caves. There are several caves used by Guru himself and some caves used by his consorts Khandro Mendharawa and Khandom Yeshey Tshokey.

Drangoe Goenpa

During the period of the 9th โ€˜Rabjungโ€™, a Tibetan reincarnate, Trulku Gyeltshen Pel, disciple of Gyalwa Gyeltshenpa, began his journey from Baeyul (in Tibet) to Bhutan to follow the prophesy of Lord Buddha. He visited various holy places in the country and finally, having reached Paro, saw a hill in the shape of a human heart (Ri Drangje) and decided to reside there on the top of the hill. In 1510, he built the monastery of Drangoe Goemba and established a small Buddhist school and practised โ€˜Bara Kajyudโ€™ teachings. He also built many other monasteries, such as Dzongdra Kha Lhakhang, Goenyul Nangsel Goenpa, etc. to spread the teachings of โ€˜Bara Kajyudpaโ€™.

Later, after the death of Gyeltshen Pel, Trulku Namkha Gyeltshen took over the Lhakhang and continued the reign down the generations by his reincarnations. The monastery was later seized by Lam Kha Nga when they came into power. Soon after, a fable ran that a woman spread the rumours of the decline of the doctrine. On hearing this rumour, Pelden Drukpa Rimpoche (Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel) paid a visit to Bhutan and restored the monastery from Lam Kha Nga and commanded the second Drubchen, Jimpa Gyeltshen to take charge of it. After the restoration, the Takstang Lamas were also recruited from this monastic school.
