Located between Thimphu and Punakha, Dochula is a spectacular Mountain Pass, which is twenty kilometres away from the capital city. It sits at an elevation of 3,150 meters above sea level and is known for its stunning panoramic views of the Jigme Singye Wangchuck Himalayan mountain ranges, including some of the tallest unclimbed peaks in the world.

It is home to stunningly beautiful 108 stupas of memorials. These stupas were built in 2004 by Her Majesty Azhi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck to pay tribute to those soldiers who lost lives during Southern operations against the Assamese insurgents. The operation was more than successful, thus, regaining stability. Known by their name the Druk Wangyel Chorten, stupas are eye-catching memorials, where hundreds of travellers stop over for a short break.

Druk Wangyel Lhakhang in the vicinity stands for the hill above the Chorten was built to honour His Majesty the King's Coronation in 2008. The temple houses various statues, complex murals and historical specialities, the paintings of the Royal families of Bhutan.

Chelela Pass

With spectacular scenery and a chill atmosphere, Chelela Pass between Paro and Haa Valley stands at about 3988 meters above sea level. The winding road through the pine woods and Alpine Meadows, driving to the Pass is one of the best rides in Bhutan. The Nunnery that clings over the rocky cliff is a welcoming facet overlooking Paro Valley.

Hiking to Wangduetse from Sangaygang is one of the spectacular hikes in Thimphu. It is an hour's hike to and fro or continue downhill to Dechenphodrang Monastery to rejuvenate your tiresome work at home, office and workplace.

Built in the 18th century, Wangduetse stands on the ridge overlooking the capital city, a Buddha Statue and surrounding areas. It is last renovated recently to conserve the cultural, traditional and religiously significant monastery. Today, it stands to be one of the most beautiful monasteries around Thimphu.
