Coe Hill Riders ATV club “Rock the Forest” Charity Ride Raises $2,642.57 for the Tri-Township Food Basket

On Saturday August 12th, the Coe Hill Riders held their second ATV charity ride of the season, dedicated to the Tri-Township Food Basket. 54 Riders braved the stormy wet weather to enjoy the trail ride along with live music in the forest. Event Co-Ordinator Norm Lewis wanted to try something different for this ride and arranged for 4 musicians to play their guitars during the lunch stop.

Performers included Calum MacMaster, Mike Parisien, Chris Neil, and Norm Lewis himself. Despite the heavy downpour of rain at noon, the musicians performed under a tent.

Club President, Darren Stevens expressed his gratitude to these individuals for sharing their talents. “I want to thank these guys for coming out and performing in the forest, they were great!”

Participant Jenn Bowles wrote, “Thank you to everyone who organized this fabulous event, the marshals, and the incredible talent we had the pleasure to listen to! It was so well organized! We had so much fun, with great music, awesome prizes, good eats and met a bunch of really great people!! We knew we were going to have fun, but it was even more fun than we could have imagined!! Thank you!!”

The cost of the ride was $40 per person and included a hot dog lunch. In addition, to the registration fees collected, the club also has a lottery license and sold raffle tickets, so the grand total raised for the Tri-Township Food Basket was $2,642.57.

The Tri-Township Food Basket is the local food bank serving Wollaston, Limerick and Tudor-Cashel, and is open on Wednesdays from Noon until 2 pm, located at the Coe Hill Legion. Many participants also brought food donations and four bags of groceries will be delivered to the food bank this coming week.

The Coe Hill Riders board of directors greatly appreciates all the local individuals and businesses that donate such generous prizes for our events. These included Bancroft Sport & Marine, Bear Ridge Campground; Coe Hill Collective & Café, Edge Café, Julie Fenn, Lisa McMaster and Red Eagle Family Campground. The Board is also very grateful to Royal Distributing, who is also partnering with the Ontario Federation of All Terrain Vehicles, for their donation of $50.00 gift cards.

The Board also thanks the Coe Hill Café and the Edge Café who opened at 8 am on Saturday so participants could purchase a delicious breakfast before the ride.

Saturday September 23rd is the next scheduled charity ride date, and the club is organizing it as a poker run to support the Wollaston Public Library.

This time of year is breeding season for Barred owls and if you keep your eyes peeled while driving in this region you might be lucky enough to spot one in a perch along the highway. I’ve never been sure if their appearances increase in frequency because it’s breeding season and I know to look for them, or because they are easier to spot with less foliage on the trees. Regardless, we usually see about a half dozen each winter.

This one was near Egan Chutes Provincial Park and our friend Shaun at .me.nerves_photography was able to skillfully get his lens on this same bird and we were all in awe of its beauty and stealth when it swooped up to the tree from the ditch it was no doubt hunting in. A huge shoutout to The Boreal’s Edge for this incredible find (on their way home after our joint hike around their 47 acre property) – a Barred Owl. They'd barely hit send and I was in the truck and on my way to their location!
This encounter is not just a photographic highlight but it marks a significant moment as it's my first-ever ( ) sighting of this majestic species.
I am truly grateful for moments like this, thus capoing off what has been an incredible year for me, photographically speaking! 🦉✨
