Here we go, back on the gram . . . best thing about this job is the people you meet. The Martin family came all the way from Arizona to see if Campbell River really was the fishing capital of the world. The title might be up for grabs, but I think we’ve secured their vote. And they left with hats! Wear them in good health, and thanks for making the trip.

We’ve had some gorgeous fall days. Here’s a couple groups from the weekend who made the best of them.

Plus, I got myself a present — wine delivery achieved. Slowing the roll a little bit here. Time to repair some gear, do a little maintenance, and make the adjustment into the shoulder season.

It was my pleasure to spend the day with these guys and put them on Chinook salmon. Our fishing obsessions aligned, and it turned out we had some experiences and rivers in common. Makes for a great time that ends too soon 👍

When returning salmon to their natural habitat, form is important above all else. As you swing through the arc, first rotate the torso and then the hips, extend fully towards the target area, and turn over your wrists at the moment of release.

Bobby Big Fish retains the title! In other news, Captain Coho finally retires, but not from catching fish. Plus, the Linguist makes his second appearance on the boat and fine tunes his fishing skills in a bid to kick BBF off the podium. Who will take the crown next year? Stay tuned…

Great three days of fishing, conversation, and most of all, laughs. Beers consumed. Can’t thank you guys enough. Very glad we were able to work a few humpback and dolphin shows into the equation.

Hold on to that fish! This one had to go back . . . just over-sized. Went on a few good runs, though, and Amy was up for the challenge. I love having these guys out. Great attitude, the nicest people. Enjoy the rest of your Vancouver Island trip, and I’ll see you soon. Also thanks to for taking out the other half of the crew. Oh, and dude . . . that bucket hat is the bomb!

A day of fishing and whale watching for this Cali couple, on the heels of what sounded like a fantastic kayak trip with

After fishing early, we were fortunate enough to be near seven or eight humpback whales. We saw two of them breach in unison, single breaches, and pectoral fin slaps. Quite the show.

The feeling is difficult to describe, but when you’re sitting in a boat with the engine off, waiting for an appearance, and then the silence is broken by the sudden exhale of a humpback, you get a bit of a chill. And when you see these beasts up close, coming right out of the water, you tend to appreciate your insignificance. You’re in their world.

This couple came all the way from Iowa to the Pacific Northwest to catch a bunch of Chinook salmon and show off to the kids at home. Fantastic afternoon. Great success.
