Adoption story, September 2024! We welcomed 11 dogs to our kennel last month from a family in central Alberta. With the lack of snow in that area over the last few years, the very difficult decision to re-home their dogs was made when they reached out to us to see if we could add them to the tour teams and have consistent running in the winter.
Friendly, spunky and beautiful, these huskies will be incorporated into our teams and we can't wait to see them running on the snowy trails in the mountains - doing what sled dogs love!

Adoption story, fall 2024! New to our kennel, these sled dogs come from sprint musher Carl Knudsen, who has been fall training to set up his team for competitive racing in the winter. We take in younger dogs that do not make the team, usually 1-2 years old. And since a competitive sled dog can reach its peak physically around 6-7 years, we occasionally take in older dogs that are no longer keeping up to the team but the musher knows they still have several years of running left in them. This brings leadership and experience to our teams along with the youthful exuberance of the yearlings. Carl's dogs are quick to adapt to the tour life and we can place them easily in the teams.

In early October the dryland races were held in Sundre, Alberta. Sled dogs are active even where there is no snow! Activities such as canicross (runners with a waist belt attached to dogs), bike-joring, scooters, and carts keep the dogs doing what they love.
We had the pleasure of catching up with Tamara of Harvey's Racing based out of central Alberta when she was competing in the 4 dog cart race. In the late 80's and early 90's we raced against her and her father, and she has carried on her family tradition of being a true ambassador to the sport of dog mushing by sharing her knowledge through mushing clinics, hosting races, and mentoring new mushers.
