Owner/biologist Tom Goodwin has been observing/studying whales for over 35 years, and risked his life 'rescuing' whales from entanglements in his younger years. He is one of the most experienced/qualified whale guides in the world! http://oceanexplorations.ca/tom.html There have been several comments about US disturbing the whales, 'waking them up' ... driving up to them etc. .. none are true. ... The whales surfaced after a dive and swam and/or drifted over to us. One 'interacted' with us before joining the other two 'logging' for many minutes before the 'take off'. We did not (ever) approach the whales or 'wake them up'. Thx for your interest (including 'concern')

We ARE still open! ... Through this weekend at least. We have a number of participants from around the world, attending the 2017 marine mammal conference (https://www.facebook.com/events/1060310684008883/) in Halifax visiting/hoping to get out on the weekend. ... Weather is looking a bit more promising than through the weekdays now. Friday 13th was actually quite lucky! sept 5 has crept up already and I was hoping to have had guest photos and videos arrive by now, but not. WOW!! .... end of September, ... but season is far from over yet! .. ok ... just a few more weeks, but let's not talk about THAT! :-( This has got to be one of the best seasons in memory! ... We definitely had some "fall" conditions this past week (see the videos) ... but hopefully some very 'summer' like conditions still in the next couple weeks (too) - like today! .... only a couple spots left at 330. ... Light winds this weekend but chances of some precipitation! ... didn't stop ANY folks from going out last week, not one cancellation (and a waiting list), they were 'rewarded' with 6 humpbacks total and a grand finale of tail slapping and a close approach. ... 'close approach' and 'friendly whales of 2016' I'm working an album summary. ... teaser - who IS this headless "whale-whisperer"! ?? LOL

Orca spotted off Long Island yesterday - noticed by Craig Theriault - as in the past travelling with his "groupies" (ha ha) ... many white sided dolphins! Both 1230 and 330 trips got to see him!

a few good sized waves yesterday but a good group (lots of Europeans, VERY common for us at this time of year) and some good activity for the "grand finale" !
