Magical Ice Camp days ❄️

We miss winter and we’ve been flipping through trip pictures to help us cope with the warm weather 🥲

Here are some pictures from our first Ice Camp, hosted this past February in Barry’s Bay 😍

We spent 3 rejuvenating winter days in a cabin where we had the opportunity to disconnect from our daily lives and reconnect with nature, new people, and ourselves 🥰

𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟭 was spent getting to know new friends and swapping stories over drinks.

𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟮 began with a beautiful snowshoe across Diamond Lake to the classic ice formation - Guardian Angel !

We then spent the entire day learning about efficient ice movement and climbing several lines of varying difficulty.

The sun was shining and the lake was talking all day 🌞

After climbing, we shared a delicious dinner at the cabin before relaxing in the hot tub and chatting under the stars - one of our favourite moments!

𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟯 was focused on a guided hot / cold immersion recovery circuit:

🔥 Wood-burning sauna - Guided breathing exercises complemented by climbing-specific stretches

🧊 Frozen lake cold plunge - Guided breathing exercises and mindfulness techniques designed to build resilience and immerse yourself in the moment

🔥 Hot tea in the cabin - Allowing our bodies to relax and reset by the wood stove

We repeated this circuit 3-4 times and came out of the weekend feeling refreshed and rejuvenated 🙌

We’ve been reflecting on this weekend many times since February and we’re very proud of the program that we put together ❤️

A heartfelt thank you to for co-organizing the weekend, guiding us through the hot / cold immersion circuit, and putting together all of our delicious meals - the camp would not have run without your warm and organized presence 👏

We’re beyond excited to be hosting 2 Ice Camps next winter at different ice climbing areas - let us know if you’re interested in learning more !

Winter has been good to us so far 🥰☃️🥰

After a normal start to our climbing day, these climbers took ice technique to the next level and started teaching us a thing or two about sending 🤣

I don’t think we’ve ever laughed so much while ice climbing 😂😂🤣

Our first guided ice climbing day of the year - January 14 - with an amazing group of new ice climbers 🙌 🤙 🙌

Their stoke and positivity kept us warm while we celebrated a birthday in -15c conditions 🥳 🥶 🥳

Southern Ontario’s ice came in with a BANG this year and now we have more ice climbs than we know what to do with 😂 😍 😂

So many cliffs, so much ice !!!

Introducing the Muskoka Mountainworks Ice Camp !!! 📢

We are launching a unique, first of its kind ice experience this February 2024 that is open to beginner and intermediate ice climbers 🙌

Our Ice Camp will be based out of two cozy cottages:

🗓️ February 2-4 in Barry’s Bay, $749 (weekend)

During Ice Camp, you will ...

November 29 - little did we know that our dry tooling plans would be interrupted by a surprise pitch of mixed climbing … our first ice of the season in southern Ontario 🙌 😍 🙌

Fall route & crag development days with 🙌

We took another couple days this fall to work on 3 new crags in Muskoka and Maynooth 😻

They’re all on crown land… 2 are accessible by canoe, 1 is accessible by canoe and foot.

Everything requires a TON of cleaning 😳

But, we were able to send Shell Shock (trad, 5.9 PG-13, 65 feet, P1) and we also cleaned 2 x 5.10 sport routes, 1 x 5.9 sport route, and scouted 1 x 5.11 sport route 🥳

After adding some clifftop and trail work, we were a bit dirty and exhausted 🥵😂

Love watching these cliffs take shape and hopefully turn into fun climbing areas one day ❤️

Looking back on this year’s canoe 🛶 and climb 🧗‍♀️😍

We had the raddest group of climbers/paddlers, a cozy picnic, a Tyrollean traverse, super fun granite routes, changing leaves, big waves, wacky boulders, and some classic autumn weather … sun, cloud, wind, rain, cloud, sun, bluebird, wind, cloud, rain 😂

We’re lucky to have so many climbing gems in Ontario… and the paddling approach can’t be beat 👊

Had an absolutely epic day of hiking and rappelling in Muskoka with this group of adventurous women 🧗‍♀️😍

We completed 4 rappel routes reaching up to 100 feet while enjoying epic lakeside views !

Such a great birthday gift idea… we were so excited to be a part of this special day 🌞

We ❤️ rappelling while enjoying the most beautiful places that Ontario has to offer !

We were able to share these awesome stickers with them to show our appreciation 🙌

Expansion bolts account for probably 95% of the fixed protection that we clip in Ontario.

And, for a variety of reasons, the hangers can often get a little wonky 🙃

A wonky hanger can …

⚠️ break carabiners

⚠️ open the gate of your carabiner, unclipping it from the bolt

👆enough reasons

An easy and inexpensive way to keep our bolts in sending condition is to add a 6 inch adjustable wrench to your climbing rack and fix the hangers on the way up or down.

If you don’t know how to inspect / correct an expansion bolt then it’s time to stop clipping bolts 🛑 and seek out a knowledgeable mentor or a Gym to Rock workshop 📚

Most of us don’t pay for the bolts that we clip, so taking care of our climbing areas is a small gesture that shows our appreciation ❤️

Let’s show our climbing areas a little love this season … we’re lucky to have so many fun routes in our backyard ❤️
