We had a beautiful unexpected rain this afternoon...when it was all done the birds came out to Play!
We recorded 3 couples of the Evening Grosbeak...first time ever, I have seen 3 different couples of the Evening Grosbeak...I had tears in my eyes, so exciting

Thanks Baldy Mountain Resort for a great 2023/2024 season.
See you next season.

UPDATE: Our season end will be coming to an end much sooner than anticipated. We will be ending our season on our REGULAR end date of April 1st. We have hit an out of our hands situation with our snowcats, whether it be gathering parts that are difficult to source or larger issues that can't be fixed right away.

In saying all this, we will not have any groomed runs through to April 1st. This is a tough call to make on our bonus weekend, but with the trend in the forecast with warm to cold, we would not be able to maintain the runs appropriately.

It has been a phenomenal season at Baldy, and we couldn't have asked for a better season. It may have started a bit slower than anticipated, but we made the best with what we had. All events for our bonus weekend will be canceled and moved to next season.

Coming up very soon, Birds Canada will be announcing our very first Avian Ambassador! We are really excited to bring this bird to you. But what is an Avian Ambassador?

Our Avian Ambassador will be the voice for birds across Canada. By following along throughout 2024, you will be introduced to the critical challenges that birds are facing in Canada and beyond – challenges that our Ambassador is intimately familiar with. Threats to the boreal forest, steep declines in insect populations, and the many obstacles faced by long-distance migrants.

We’ll also follow our Avian Ambassador, turning to them for solutions. Throughout the year, we’ll learn about collaborative initiatives with Indigenous communities and leaders, we’ll see collaborations across Central and South America, and we’ll learn ways that we can all help share our home with this Ambassador species.

Who is Birds Canada’s first Avian Ambassador?

Our last storm cylce totals are in! 48cm in the last 7 days and 32cm in the past 48 hours. It's starting to pile up out there, exceptional groomers and snow conditions today and even into tomorrow.
