Come with me to Gander! On this Come From Away musical themed adventure we go to the sites and places in the show.
📍Dover - here at the fault park is where Nick and Diane fall in love. It is also a beautiful view point and a great place to learn about Newfoundland’s fault line.
📍Gander Aviation Museum - a well put together and fun museum about aviation, the history of Gander, and the events in Gander during 9/11.
📍 Gander Airport - the international lounge is open to visitors and has the original 1950s design. It is a mid century modern’s dream.
📍 Appleton - a large piece of the twin towers resides here in Memorial Park as a thank you to the town for their efforts during 9/11.
Let me know if you’ve seen the musical!

Free activity for kids and kids-at-heart minutes from downtown St. John’s!
The Ocean Sciences Centre in Logy Bay is just 10 minutes from downtown St. John’s. They have touch tanks where you can get up close and personal with all sorts of marine life and learn from their incredible interpreters. They also have a family of seals that you can visit. If you visit during feeding time, they love to show off their skills!
Combining this with a picnic at nearby Middle Cove beach makes for a fantastic family friendly day.

The most beautiful trail on the East Coast of Newfoundland - Picco’s Ridge
This trail was strenuous - 14.5 km with many elevation changes along the way - but the views of Conception Bay and Bell Island are worth it. For most of the hike you’re atop of the ridge enjoying the ocean breeze and stunning views.

Fish and Chips: A Love Story (#2)
As someone in love with fish and chips, I love trying out new spots. Today we went to The Post Taphouse in Torbay. This building used to be a Canada Post office and now it’s a beautiful pub with an incredible patio. Come for the craft beer and delicious menu, stay for the gorgeous view of Torbay.
I got the 2 piece fish and chips! It was decently priced at $17. This is the average price for a 2 piece fish and chips at a pub. The portions were generous but not unreasonably large.
The fish was beautiful. The batter was light and perfectly cooked. The fries were really delicious as well. They struck a beautiful balance with their home cut fries where they are moist and crispy. I am not sure if their tartar is housemade but it was delicious either way.
Overall, the Post Taphouse is an excellent spot for fish and chips. It is a great way to end a day exploring the Killick Coast or hiking the East Coast Trail.

Eastern Newfoundland’s most accessible waterfall. Join me at Cataracts Provincial Park where the waterfall is just a short walk away from the parking lot. This park is between the Cape Shore and Salmonier Line, making it an easy stop on the way to either Cape St. Mary’s or the Irish Loop.
Most of our beautiful waterfalls are well tucked away, accessible only by hiking or boat so finding a waterfall that involves less than a 5 minute walk is a treat. To get to the first waterfall showed involves quite a few stairs. The second waterfall is to the right of the parking lot and requires no stairs.
Happy travelling friends! Like and follow for more 🙂

Join me at Cape St. Mary’s, the most accessible seabird colony in North America. It’s just a 5-10 minute walk from the information centre to the colony of northern gannets, common murres, black legged kittiwakes and gulls nest.
Over 20,000 birds nest here every year. The sight and sound of all of them will take your breath away. This is definitely a treat to see even if you’re not an avid bird watcher.
Travel tip: when it’s foggy in St. John’s, it’s usually clear at Cape St. Mary’s and you will want a clear day to see all of the birds.

A Newfoundland Pony!! I am 5’11” for reference.
I am not 100% sure if this is a true Newfoundland pony as the bred can be quite specific or if it’s just a pony in Newfoundland. Early settlers brought ponies for labour and as Newfoundland is a remote island, centuries of breeding creating a pony that is truly unique to Newfoundland.
I found this one near Colinet but the best place to find them and support them is @newfoundlandponysanctuary on Change Islands.
Gooseberry Cove Provincial Park has a sandy beach! This hidden gem of a beach is tucked away on the Cape Shore and is the perfect place for a picnic or beach day, regardless of the weather ☁️

The East Coast trail has hundreds of kilometres of trails, all with jaw dropping scenery. This little guide helps you find the trail that is perfect for your trip. Like this post and follow for more Newfoundland travel advice!
Family Friendly Hike - Beaches Path
This path connects many beaches and has little elevation change. Its perfect for families as you can go as far or as little as you want. Each beach is a little different and offers an easy turn around point if your kids get tired.
End Points: Witless Bay and Mobile
Distance: 7 km one way
Distance from St. John’s: 30 min.
The Hardest Hike - White Horse Path
The Northern most hikes are definitely the hardest but this one may be the hardest of them all. Those who hustle up the steep climbs are rewarded with outstanding views and quiet, untouched nature.
End Points: Bauline and Cape St. Francis
Distance: 18.2 km one way
Distance from St. John’s: 28 min.
Hidden Gem - Brigus Head Path
Although this one is a big further from town, it is a hidden gem that is a must see. The trailhead in Brigus South leaves from a gorgeous harbour. The trail hugs a dramatic and ever changing coastline with minimal forested sections. Finally, there is a decent path to cut across the isthmus of the peninsula, allowing you to turn this trail into a loop.
End Points: Brigus South and Admirals Cove
Distance: 6.5 km one way
Distance from St. John’s: 53 min.

First hike of the summer!! It’s been a busy few weeks and now that the sun has finally started to show, I couldn’t wait to get out there.
Trail: Biscan Cove Path
From Pouch Cove to Cape St. Francis
Pouch Cove Trailhead 40 min from downtown
Rated moderate to difficult - 7 km one way with lots of elevation changes
One of my favourite trails on the East Coast Trail system and always a treat whether in sunny weather or foggy or in todays case both!

Although Newfoundland is known for its beautiful vistas, grey foggy days let us appreciate what’s right in front of us.
To make the most of these days I like to
1. Go for a walk in the woods. My favourite trails in the metro area are Manuel’s River, Bowring Park, Rennie’s River, and Quidi Vidi Lake
2. Have a picnic on the beach. Pack snacks and a blanket and enjoy listening to the ocean and the birds. My favourite beaches in the metro area are Middle Cove Beach, Topsail Beach, Manuel’s Head, and Beachy Cove
3. Find the new blooms. It’s the beginning of summer here, which means the wildflowers are just coming back. It’s wonderful to try to find them in the forest, along the coastline, or even on a city trail. They bring so much colour back into our days
4. Watch the waves curl. I’m sure watching waves is a form of meditation. With each one different than the last it’s mesmerizing to watch them crash ashore one by one
I hope you enjoy these grey foggy days a little more. There’s so much beauty to appreciate here in Newfoundland, even when you can’t see the sweeping landscapes.

Sunday morning in Newfoundland means listening to jiggs and reels with a cuppa tea.
I always listen to K Rock (97.5 FM) or OZ FM (94.7 FM) for the best Newfoundland music on Sunday mornings. Listening to Newfoundland music is the best way to eat your breakfast, go for a drive, or cosy up and watch the rain fall.

Fish and Chips - A Love Story ❤️🐟
As someone deeply in love with fish and chips, I am always finding new places to go to. Today we went to King Cod in Mount Pearl! Details and review below 👇🏻
The portions were great and decently priced. I got the one piece of fish and chips and it was $10.99.
The chips were top tier. Tartar sauce was made in house! Everything was made fresh once we ordered but we didn’t have to wait. We got our food super fast 😍
Definitely a place to go when you’re in Mount Pearl or are heading out of town as it’s just off the Pitts Memorial Highway.

Trying authentic local food is one of the best parts of travelling. If you’re travelling to Newfoundland, you have to stop in to @bidgoodssupermarket as they have the best selection of authentic Newfoundland food available 🍽️
Bidgoods has the sort of food you’d eat if you were invited to someone’s house ☺️ at grocery store prices 😅
Not sponsored, I am just a huge fan of Bidgoods and everything they offer. I always bring my friends and family here when they visit.

Happy Birthday Queen Victoria!
Victoria Day is a Canadian holiday that celebrates the reigning sovereign’s birthday. The holiday was originally on May 24, Queen Victoria’s birthday. After her death in 1901, Canadians chose to continue to celebrate Queen Victoria’s birthday as the succeeding king had a birthday in November. Queen Victoria’s birthday is now known as the unofficial start to summer 🌞
