Every project needs to be handled well, but when it comes to houses there is special care taken to make sure every detail is right. It's not just a building, it is a home, a place for memories, a place for families to grow together. We would be honoured to help your family plan their next home.

Meet Nova Scotia native, Signe Caswell!

Signe is in her 4th year of study in the Environmental Engineering Program at the University of Guelph and is currently with Stonecrest on an eight month co-op placement, working as a Civil Engineering Technician. She has been working with the team to complete site plan controls and stormwater management.

Signe says that what led her to this field is her care for the environment, and desire to work towards environmental protection while promoting economic development. So far, she has really enjoyed working on different projects and getting experience in a lot of pieces of site development. We believe that all our co-op students should have variety in their tasks as this is the best way for development, and when they show initiative like Signe we know it’s beneficial.

Signe plays rugby both through school and through a local league. She enjoys time outside in the environment she works towards protecting, and being with her friends/family.

Natalie Clemmer has joined Stonecrest Engineering as a Project Designer for her current Co-op placement. She is enrolled in the Architecture Construction Engineering Technology (ACET) program at Conestoga College. So far in her time at Stonecrest Natalie says she enjoys having the opportunity to be able to learn something new every day and be able to work on a variety of different projects. She is also finding that Stonecrest is an environment where she is able to work with and learn from others in a collaborative manner.

What led Natalie to this career field? When she was younger Natalie used to help her mom at her flower shop and enjoyed the designing aspect and creating something new each time. Through some high school courses, including interior design, she started using AutoCAD and was able to design a house, which she really enjoyed and that led her to continue this stream of education in college. If Natalie had not chosen this field she may have become a police officer or may have got into a trade, maybe electrical.

Natalie, we hope we are able to help you develop your skills during your time with us and that you find value in this co-op experience! Your openness to working with your colleagues, asking for instructions and learning from them, is setting you up for much success and it shows by how quickly you are grasping everything being tasked to you.

Introducing Sharad Wagle! Sharad joined Stonecrest Engineering in April as a Structural Engineer, working with the Engineering Team completing structural design and review of residential and farm buildings and structures, and structural review of project drawings.

Sharad holds a Bachelors in Civil Engineering from Pokhara University, Nepal/ Civil Engineer, a Masters in Structure Engineering from Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand/ Structure Engineer and he is currently working towards his P.Eng.

Since his undergraduate, Sharad has enjoyed the subjects related to design and analysis of structures which led him to start his career in this field. Since Nepal is in a high seismic zone and the buildings were poorly constructed, he wanted to contribute in developing safer communities through better design and construction, minimizing the losses in future earthquakes. This led Sharad to the designing field for which he also received full scholarship from Asian Development Bank to pursue his Masters in Structure Engineering from top ranked institution, Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) Thailand. Furthermore, he was involved in the rescue operation and led the building assessment in the 2015 Gorkha Earthquake where almost 10,000 people lost their lives. Witnessing the damaged buildings and loss of life he got emotionally connected to safer building construction.

Sharad says if he were not in this field he would find a career as a disaster preparedness and response professional equally rewarding. He is a trained Collapse structure search and rescuer and Medical first responder. He felt immensely happy when able to save a few lives during the rescue operation in the 2015 Gorkha earthquake.

Outside of work, Sharad loves to trek and travel. He really enjoys the mountains and the mesmerizing view from those heights. So far he has trekked to 4,610m altitude above sea level. He is looking forward to his next adventure to the mountains.

One of Sharad’s mottos is that others can help us in developing knowledge and skill but behavior should be our sole responsibility, his work ethic is already showing his strong character.

We wish you all a fun and safe long weekend!

05/01/2024

Since January 2nd we have had Andrew Lave on staff completing a co-op work term. On Monday, May 6th he will return to school to his 4th year in Civil Engineering at the University of Waterloo. In Andrew’s time with us he has been assisting Senior Engineers and EITs with calculations and the design of various agricultural and residential buildings. He would also help compose structural letters and assist with site visits.

Andrew said that it has been a great co-op term at Stonecrest. He enjoyed the opportunity to work independently to conduct engineering reviews of large structures. And being able to get outside and on-site taught him how everything is put together, seeing the product from paper to reality.

Andrew also appreciated the work-life balance that Stonecrest offers its employees. Outside of work he enjoys golfing, playing hockey and playing with his dog. He is also training to run a marathon.

Thank you for choosing to complete this co-op work term with us Andrew! We wish you the best in your schooling and your career.
