Jordan - Petra at night.

The walk into Petra is a challenge (for me anyways). Uneven ground, uphill when leaving, sweltering heat and a 2 km distance each way…and I did it twice today. Once in the morning to see it during the day and again at night to see it all lit up. And, we had an amazing view of the Big Dipper.

After a full day of training from the amazing tour operators that accompanied us to Jordan, we were treated to a Bedouin evening. We were all provided with a typical Bedouin outfit.
Did you know, Bedouin’s have inhabited the deserts of the Middle East for thousands of years? Today, while many Bedouins have transitioned to settled life, some still maintain aspects of their nomadic heritage, preserving their unique customs, language, and social structures.

The Dead Sea is a natural wonder nestled between Jordan to the east and Israel to the west. It is 10 times saltier than the Pacific Ocean, making it impossible for any form of aquatic life to survive, and no boat traffic is allowed. It offers unparalleled buoyancy while floating effortlessly on its surface. The mineral-rich mud found along its shores is believed to have therapeutic properties, drawing people from around the world seeking relief for skin ailments and overall wellness. We had the opportunity to cover ourselves in the mud before going for a float.

Jordan - Day 1

After a very long, but direct flight, from Toronto to Amman with Royal Jordanian, we were treated to a stop at Beit Khayrat Souf. This is a Planeterra Foundation community organization that has enabled 25 women to become self sufficient and provide an income for their families. They prepared a typical Jordanian dish that has been enjoyed in this wonderful country for 100’s of years. The food was amazing.
