Welcome back York Students we all hope you had a fantastic summer! As the summer comes to an end and school begins fear not as there is fun in education! The forgien Affairs Council of Glendon wants you to become a delegate for this years delegation. The skills you learn from being a member of the FACG are applicable to future careers and will be extremely useful for building valuable skills. As a member you will become a more confident public speaker, learn how to better articulate your thoughts and get your point across, learn networking tips and much more. Another phenomenal weekend for the Glendon delegations of Croatia and Canada at Carleton University in Ottawa. From meeting Senator Mark Gold, to visiting the Croatian and Latvian embassies, these delegates made some unforgettable memories.

I would like to inform you of a Negotiations and Diplomacy workshop to be organized at Glendon Campus on Monday, January 29th from 5:30-7:30.

This is an excellent opportunity to learn about different negotiation tactics taught by an actual UN delegate, public policy writing, and diplomacy.

The event is a practical training workshop that will use a “hands-on” and “case-study” approach to build Public Policy, Multilateral Negotiations and diplomacy skills in the field of Climate Change policy and diplomacy.

This training workshop is targeted to anyone studying international relations, international development, political science, public policy, liberal arts and business, or professionals who intend to work with international organizations or who hope to make a career change to global affairs. The workshop is meant to give a “sneak peek” into the challenges that global affairs professionals face in their work with governments, international organizations, NGO's, private sector and other multilateral institutions.

This workshop is part of a series of policy and diplomacy workshops organized under the Center for Global Health Security and Diplomacy's Global Affairs Training Program in collaboration with Global Affairs Student Clubs, including the FACG, at York University.

ATTENTION! Registration is now open for Carleton Model NATO 2018!

Carleton Model NATO 2018 is a unique four-day conference/simulation that brings together students from across Canada to debate solutions to the most pressing transatlantic and international security issues. The core of the event is an intensive and immersive two-day simulation of NATO decision-making and crisis management. By assuming the role of NATO member state representatives, students gain a rich and unique understanding of Alliance politics, priorities and challenges facing the North Atlantic Treaty Organization as well as a much deeper understanding of critical international security issues and their solutions. Committee topics and crisis scenarios are designed to challenge delegates to think critically and creatively about NATO’s current operations, priorities, and future directions.

In addition to the simulation, students take advantage of Carleton MNATO's location in the nation’s capital to meet with Canadian policymakers and foreign and military policy officials, and diplomats and military officers representing NATO member countries. MNATO organizes visits to embassies, high commissions, and Canadian federal departments for students to receive briefings on their country’s specific position on Alliance policies and priorities. MNATO also hosts a range of distinguished speakers and important networking opportunities. Past speakers have included Canada’s Chiefs of Defence Staff, Ministers of Defence, Canadian and foreign Ambassadors, NATO officials, military attachés, and academic experts. The event affords a unique opportunity for young Canadians to gain a greater appreciation and more nuanced understanding of NATO and its important contributions to international peace and security, while at the same time developing negotiation and policy research skills.

The FACG is pleased to share that this year's FACG delegation to SPECQUE, or simply the Toronto Delegation, had their resolution be one of the two chosen to be presented on Europe day, May 9! Congrats to the authors. You can read the two outstanding resolutions via the link bellow.

Dans le cadre de la Journée de l'Europe (9 mai), les délégations participantes sont invités à soumettre des résolutions pour débats lors de la simulation. Nous sommes fiers de partager avec vous que la résolution de la délégation du CAEG à la Specque, ou simplement la délégation de Toronto, a été parmis les deux résolutions retenues pour la XXème édition de la SPECQUE à Prague. Vous pouvez lire les deux résolutions choisies avec le liens dessous.

Le CAEG est à la recherche des étudiant(e)s motivé(e)s et intéressé(e)s de joindre notre délégation à la XXème édition de la SPECQUE à Prague, du 30 juillet au 6 août 2017.
La SPECQUE est la plus importante Simulation francophone reproduisant le fonctionnement du Parlement européen. Pendant une semaine, les participants revêtent le costume d'un acteur de la vie politique européenne : commissaire européen, rapporteur de commission, chef de groupe politique, eurodéputé, mais aussi journaliste ou lobbyiste.
La date limite pour déposer votre candidature au sein de la délégation du CAEG à SPECQUE 2017 approche. Vous avez jusqu'à minuit le 23 Janvier pour nous envoyer votre CV et lettre de motivation (1 page maximum) en Français à [email protected]. Une bonne compréhension de la langue française est requis. Do you have an interest in International relations, trade, law or economics? Model WTO might be the simulation for you!
The application process for Model WTO in Switzerland during the first week of April begins as of the 12th of december 2016. This is a week long simulation that follows the proceedings of the WTO. It takes place in St. Gallen, Switzerland hosted by students of the University of St. Gallen and culminates in with a tour of, and final meeting at the WTO in Geneva.
Delegates are asked to apply individually but the FACG asks that all those interested in taking part this prestigious simulation email the FACG a copy of their CV in english to [email protected]. The FACG is committed to providing the appropriate pedagogic support for any delegate from Glendon wishing to attend.
