Nicolas Lachance privilégie l'ambigüité engendrée par le phénomène de l'apparition et de la disparition de l'image. Les nombreuses déclinaisons qu’il exploite reflètent un questionnement constant, une remise en question permanente sur la technique et le geste du peintre, mais également affirment une mise en abîme de thématiques récurrentes comme celles de l’absence et de la mémoire.
