Do Canadians Need a COVID Test to Fly to the U.S.?

While restrictions eased for fully vaccinated travellers coming into Canada, the U.S. still has several measures in effect, including mandatory pre-departure COVID-19 tests for those flying into the country. All travellers entering the U.S. by air are still required to present proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken within one day of travel, regardless of vaccination status. The CTV News report reminds Canadians that the U.S. accepts rapid antigen tests administered by a lab or health-care provider for entry, but more expensive molecular test such as PCR are also still accepted. At-home rapid antigen tests can only be used if the test is taken under the supervision of a telehealth provider through “an audio and video connection.” The test must also be approved for emergency use by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration or by the “relevant national authority where the test is administered,” such as Health Canada. Travellers who have recently recovered from COVID-19 can use their positive test result to enter the U.S. for up to 90 days after their infection. For this purpose, the test can be any kind that satisfies the U.S.’ entry requirements, and doesn’t have to be a PCR test. Travellers with a positive test result must also have a signed letter from a health-care provider or public health official stating that they’ve been cleared for travel. Unlike Canada’s ArriveCAN app, the U.S. also does not have a mandatory app for inbound travellers. For travellers entering the U.S. through land borders crossings or ferry terminals, no COVID-19 tests of any kind are required. In addition, all non-immigrant and non-U.S. citizen travellers must present proof of being fully vaccinated. Unvaccinated foreigners are not permitted to enter the U.S. unless they’ve been granted an exemption.

Altair Travel Story

Altair Travel was founded by Galina Krivanov. And the story started 16 years ago.

The name came from the twelfth brightest star in the night sky – Altair, the traveller’s guiding star.

At Altair Travel, we believe in famous saying of Augustine of Hippo - “The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.” That is why we have all the tools to provide our travellers with a full range of services: air tickets, hotel reservations, car rentals, group and individual tours, cruises, pre-packaged vacations, wedding destinations, European spa packages, and special getaways of a lifetime.
