In 2013, football was born at Spectrum Community School in Victoria, British Columbia by legendary football coach Roy Vollinger. Competing in AA varsity, Spectrum struggled in its first season with only 3 players who had previous football experience. Despite not having a Varsity team, Spectrum completed at the Jr Varsity (Grade 9/10 level). In its first exhibition game of the season, Spectrum lost

a close game to Belmont 30-18. The following game was a 26-0 defeat to the hands of Mt Doug. This didn’t seem to ruin the team’s spirit as they bounced back to give Spectrum’s first ever football win, 15-6 against the Ballenas Whalers. Despite not winning another game that season, the Thunder showed great improvement from the previous season.

2015 was a year of change for the program. New coaching staff helped Spectrum create a new culture throughout the football team. The Varsity team completed in the Tier II division while the Juniors continued in AA. The varsities had immediate success in the preseason, winning a 38-8 decision to the visiting Timberline Wolves. After numerous close losses-including a 40-32 loss to the defending champion Earl Marriott Mariners. The last game of the season found the Thunder facing the Timberline Wolves with playoff implications on the line. Spectrum won 25-12, giving the Thunder their first ever playoff birth. In the playoffs, the Thunder faced their hardest challenge, Earl Marriott, who after a hard fought defensive battle, came away victorious 13-6. Marriott would go on to win the Tier II championship 40-14. This season showed that the future is bright for Spectrum, and that they will be a force to be reckoned with next season.

We welcome football players aged 11-17 to join us for an action packed weekend of positional based development and technical skills led by our team of collegiate level coaches.
